FRISCO, Texas — Von Miller said Hunter Luepke is now a part owner of Greener Pastures Chicken, the terms of the deal that gave Miller the No. 40 jersey for the Dallas Cowboys this season. Miller spoke Thursday wearing a chicken hat.
Miller said the negotiation went to the final hour.
“It was great. You gotta give Hunter a great shout out, man,” Miller said. “He’s learned from the best with the negotiators here with the Cowboys. It went down to the final hour, but we were able to get it done. We won’t get into details about it, but I’m happy to say he’s my business partner. He’s a part owner of Greener Pastures Chicken, the chicken of champions. Organic, pasture-raised, non-GMO, sustainable and regenerative farming as well. It’s the chicken of champions, so it was only right for Hunter to be a part of that, too. He won three national championships in college, so it was a great fit for us.”
Who Else Is On The Cap Table
Miller named the other investors in the company.
“We got a lot of guys on the cap table, whether it’s me, Patrick Mahomes, Drew Brees, Nick Foles,” Miller explained. “Throwing Hunter Luepke in that conversation as well as part owner of Greener Pastures Chicken is amazing. I was excited to have him on board. He was excited as well. It was a win-win for both sides.”
Miller called it the only negotiation he has ever had to conduct himself, and said he believes it is the first jersey swap in league history paid for with ownership of a chicken farm.
How The No. 40 Deal Came Together
The Cowboys announced Thursday that Miller will wear No. 40 and that Luepke moves to No. 30. The club described the arrangement as an undisclosed amount of equity in Greener Pastures Chicken.
Miller first messaged Luepke on Instagram and offered chicken for life. He also floated $40,000 to $50,000 for full-body tattoo work. Luepke asked for 2% equity.
Greener Pastures Chicken is a 35-acre organic poultry farm in Elgin, Texas, that Miller co-founded. He majored in poultry science at Texas A&M.
Luepke has worn No. 40 since Dallas signed him as an undrafted free agent out of North Dakota State in 2023. He wore No. 44 in college. Across three seasons in Dallas he has 34 carries for 128 yards and 1 touchdown, and 28 receptions for 238 yards and 1 touchdown.
Miller wore No. 40 at DeSoto High School, at Texas A&M, with the Los Angeles Rams in 2021, and with the Buffalo Bills from 2022 through 2024.
The Cowboys open Sept. 13 at MetLife Stadium against the New York Giants. Kickoff is 7:20 p.m. CT on NBC.
