DALLAS — In a set of seven trade predictions published Friday, Bleacher Report has the Dallas Cowboys sending two first-round picks and Rashan Gary to the Las Vegas Raiders for Maxx Crosby.
Kristopher Knox listed the Dallas proposal sixth among the seven scenarios, with the Cowboys parting with their 2027 and 2028 first-round selections along with Gary. The league’s trade window does not close until Nov. 10. Dallas still holds both of those first-rounders, having sent Green Bay a 2027 fourth-round pick in March rather than a higher selection.
“A top pick is expendable this year to add somebody meaningful that would help us now,” Jerry Jones said in July, per The Athletic’s Jon Machota.
How the March Maxx Crosby Talks Fell Apart
Dallas offered the Raiders the 12th overall pick in the 2026 draft and a 2027 second-round pick for Crosby, sources told ESPN in March. Las Vegas took Baltimore’s package instead and agreed on March 6 to send Crosby to the Baltimore Ravens for the No. 14 selection in 2026 and a 2027 first-rounder.
Crosby flew east and took his physical in Baltimore on March 10. The Ravens backed out that night, and the Raiders announced the collapse in a statement. NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported the reason was medical, and ESPN later reported that Baltimore’s evaluation turned up a degenerative issue in Crosby’s left knee. Crosby had surgery on a torn meniscus in that knee in January.
At the NFL Combine in March, Jones said he expected to borrow from the Cowboys’ future to improve the defense.
“We did not walk away. That’s about all there is to say,” Jones said of the Crosby talks in July, per Machota.
What Maxx Crosby and Rashan Gary Have Done
Crosby played 15 games last season and finished with 10.0 sacks, 73 tackles, 28 tackles for loss, 20 quarterback hits, two forced fumbles, and one interception. Through seven seasons he has 69.5 sacks in 110 games. He has made five straight Pro Bowls, and Oakland drafted him in the fourth round, 106th overall, in 2019 out of Eastern Michigan. Crosby played his high school football at Colleyville Heritage and turned 29 on Aug. 22.
Gary arrived in Dallas on March 9 in exchange for a 2027 fourth-round pick, then signed a reworked two-year, $32 million contract with $16 million guaranteed, according to ESPN. Green Bay drafted him 12th overall in 2019, and he has 46.5 sacks across seven seasons. Last year he started 15 games and recorded 7.5 sacks, 20 quarterback hits, seven tackles for loss, and one forced fumble. Cowboys defensive coordinator Christian Parker was on the Green Bay staff during Gary’s first two seasons.
The Cowboys Pass Rush Entering Week 1
Dallas traded Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers a week before the 2025 season for Kenny Clark and two first-round picks. On Nov. 4 the Cowboys acquired Quinnen Williams from the New York Jets for a 2026 second-round pick, a 2027 first-round pick, and defensive tackle Mazi Smith. Williams signed a three-year, $105.9 million extension in August that keeps him under contract through 2030.
Von Miller agreed to terms on Aug. 16 on a one-year contract worth $5.5 million, with a maximum value of $7.5 million. The DeSoto native and Texas A&M product went second overall in 2011 and enters his 15th season with 138.5 career sacks, the most among active players. He played all 17 games for the Washington Commanders last season and finished with nine sacks and six tackles for loss.
Dallas opens the season Sunday, Sept. 13, at MetLife Stadium against the New York Giants. Kickoff is set for 7:20 p.m. CT on NBC.
