CARROLLTON, Texas — Dallas Stars center Tyler Seguin disclosed Tuesday that he had a setback in the middle of June that forced him to stop skating during his recovery from ACL surgery. Seguin spoke at the Dallas Stars Foundation’s annual Drive Fore the Kids golf tournament, in an availability reported by Robert Tiffin of NHL.com.
“I had a setback in the middle of June and had to kind of stop skating,” Seguin said. “Now I’ve been trending in the right direction.”
Seguin did not detail what the setback was.
The disclosure came a week after the Stars posted video of Seguin skating at the team’s practice facility as part of the captain’s skate. Dallas has not put a return date on him.
Dr. Dan Cooper performed the surgery in Dallas on Dec. 16, two weeks after Seguin was hurt. Rangers defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov fell on his right knee in the first period of a 3-2 overtime loss at the New York Rangers on Dec. 2, 2025. Recovery from the procedure averages around nine months, according to NHL.com, which puts Seguin at the front end of camp.
Dallas Stars Ruled Tyler Seguin Out Last February
The Stars filed the paperwork on Feb. 27 to rule Seguin out for the rest of the regular season and the playoffs. The filing gave Dallas full cap relief and closed off any return during the 2026 postseason.
Stars coach Glen Gulutzan said that day on “The Hardline” on Sportsradio 96.7 FM/1310 The Ticket that Seguin had traveled with the team on a road trip through Las Vegas and Utah while Dallas was struggling, and that the Stars swept it.
“It’s such a big loss on the ice and off the ice,” Gulutzan said.
Seguin finished with 7 goals, 10 assists, and 17 points in 27 games. He was plus-10, won 53.6% of his faceoffs, and averaged 16:40 of ice time.
Dallas went 50-20-12 for 112 points and finished second in the Central Division. The Minnesota Wild eliminated the Stars in six games in the first round.
Tyler Seguin’s Injury Timeline Since 2020
Seguin has now had three long rehabs in six years. He tore his labrum during the 2020 run to the Stanley Cup Final and had a right hip arthroscopy and labral repair on Nov. 2, 2020, then missed all but three games the following season.
On Dec. 5, 2024, Seguin had a procedure to repair a left femoroacetabular impingement and hip labrum. He had 9 goals, 12 assists, and 21 points in 20 games that year, returned for the regular-season finale, and played all 18 playoff games.
He has played 47 regular-season games across the past two years. In 1,016 career regular-season games, Seguin has 367 goals, 459 assists, and 826 points.
Dallas opens training camp Sept. 17 at Comerica Center in Frisco. The Stars host the St. Louis Blues on Oct. 2 at American Airlines Center, with an 8 p.m. CT puck drop on TNT.
