DALLAS — Dallas Stars center Tyler Seguin skated Tuesday at the team’s practice facility as he works back from a torn ACL in his right knee. The Stars posted video of the session to their X account Tuesday afternoon.
Seguin has been on the ice this week as part of the captain’s skate. Dallas opens training camp Sept. 17 at Comerica Center in Frisco.
Seguin has not played since Dec. 2, 2025, a 3-2 overtime loss at the New York Rangers. Rangers defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov fell on his right knee during that game, and Seguin had surgery on Dec. 16. Recovery from the procedure averages around nine months, according to NHL.com, which puts him at the front end of camp.
Seguin addressed the rehab at exit interviews on May 4. He described the recovery as difficult and said ACL tears are uncommon enough in hockey that he had few teammates to ask about when he could skate, cut, and push off the knee again.
“I feel good,” Seguin said.
Seguin finished last season with 7 goals, 10 assists, and 17 points in 27 games. He was plus-10, averaged 16:40 of ice time, and won 53.6% of his faceoffs. He put 31 shots on goal.
Tyler Seguin’s Hip And Knee Surgeries
The knee injury followed hip surgery that ended his 2024-25 season early. Seguin had 9 goals, 12 assists, and 21 points in 20 games that year, with a plus-15 rating and 16:09 of ice time per game. He returned for the regular-season finale and then played all 18 of Dallas’ playoff games, scoring 4 goals and 4 assists.
Seguin has played 47 regular-season games across the past two years. The Boston Bruins took him second overall in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, and he has spent his last 13 seasons in Dallas. He has 367 goals, 459 assists, and 826 points in 1,016 regular-season games. In 151 playoff games, he has 29 goals, 50 assists, and 79 points.
Dallas Stars’ Pending Free Agents
Seguin is in the final year of the eight-year, $78.8 million contract he signed with Dallas in 2018. The deal carries a $9.85 million cap hit. The NHL salary cap is $104 million for the 2026-27 season.
Seguin is one of nine pending unrestricted free agents on the Dallas roster, according to TSN. Jason Robertson and captain Jamie Benn are also on that list, and both signed one-year deals this summer.
Robertson signed for one year and $12 million on July 21 after filing for salary arbitration on July 5. He led Dallas with 45 goals, 51 assists, and 96 points in 82 games last season. He becomes eligible to sign an extension on Jan. 1.
Dallas went 50-20-12 for 112 points last season and finished second in the Central Division. The Minnesota Wild eliminated the Stars in six games in the first round.
Injuries ran through the roster from October on. Benn missed the first 19 games with a punctured lung and played 60. Matt Duchene played 57 after a head injury cost him 24 games. Lian Bichsel was limited to 50 games by a lower-body injury. Nils Lundkvist played 52 and had his face cut by a skate in Game 5 against Minnesota. Mikko Rantanen missed 15 games with a lower-body injury he sustained playing for Finland at the 2026 Winter Olympics in February.
Miro Heiskanen led Dallas defensemen with 63 points in 77 games. Wyatt Johnston matched Robertson for the team lead with 45 goals.
Dallas opens the preseason Sept. 19 at St. Louis with a 6 p.m. CT puck drop. The Stars host the St. Louis Blues in the regular-season opener on Oct. 2 at American Airlines Center.
