FRISCO, Texas — The Minnesota Vikings claimed guard Trevor Keegan off waivers from the Dallas Cowboys, according to the league’s waiver report Monday. Claims processed at noon CT.
Dallas had trade discussions with teams involving Keegan before waiving him, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reported Monday afternoon. Garafolo wrote that such talks usually indicate who might put in a claim.
Minnesota also claimed center Nick Samac from the Carolina Panthers. The Vikings held the No. 18 waiver priority, which matched their spot in the 2026 draft order, and they have to make 2 corresponding moves.
Keegan turned 26 on Sunday, the day Dallas waived him. He had two accrued seasons, so he went to the wire rather than straight to free agency.
The Cowboys had claimed Keegan off waivers from the Philadelphia Eagles on Aug. 28 last year, a week before the season opener in Philadelphia. The Los Angeles Chargers put in a claim on him the same day, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported at the time. Because Keegan arrived on a claim, Dallas took on his original Eagles rookie contract.
Trevor Keegan’s Season With The Dallas Cowboys
Keegan played 2 games for Dallas. He debuted Oct. 5 against the New York Jets in a 37-22 win and played again Oct. 12 at Carolina in a 27-30 loss. Those appearances covered 6 offensive snaps.
Pro Football Focus graded him 58.2 overall, 77.3 in pass blocking, and 57.7 in run blocking. He allowed no pressures.
A neck injury ended the season. Dallas placed Keegan on injured reserve Oct. 21 and activated him on Feb. 15. He was healthy in the spring and reported to Oxnard to compete for interior depth work behind Tyler Smith, Cooper Beebe, and Tyler Booker.
Nine offensive linemen made the Cowboys’ initial 53-man roster: Booker, Beebe, Tyler Guyton, Ajani Cornelius, T.J. Bass, Drew Shelton, Smith, Broderick Jones, and Terence Steele. Dallas released tackle Marcellus Johnson earlier Sunday and waived guards Chris Glaser and DJ Wingfield, tackle Sebastian Gutierrez, and center Nick Leverett.
Trevor Keegan At Michigan And Philadelphia
Philadelphia drafted Keegan in the fifth round, 172nd overall, out of Michigan in 2024. He dressed for one game as a rookie, the Week 18 finale, and won a ring when the Eagles beat the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 in Super Bowl LIX. Philadelphia kept him on its initial 53 in August 2025 and waived him a day later.
Keegan spent five years at Michigan. He started 11 games at left guard in 2021, when the offensive line won the Joe Moore Award, and started 11 more in 2022 on the way to first-team All-Big Ten. He was second-team the following season, when Michigan won the national title. He arrived in Ann Arbor at 340 pounds and played the 2022 season at 305.
At the 2024 combine, Keegan ran 5.24 in the 40. He jumped 30.5 inches in the vertical and 8 feet, 11 inches in the broad.
Samac went 228th overall to the Baltimore Ravens in the seventh round of the same draft, out of Michigan State. Baltimore waived him on Aug. 27, 2025, and signed him to the practice squad the next day. Carolina claimed him off that practice squad on Sept. 16, 2025. He played 11 games for the Panthers last season.
Minnesota opens the regular season Sept. 13 at home against the Green Bay Packers. Dallas plays that day at MetLife Stadium against the New York Giants, with kickoff at 7:20 p.m. CT on NBC.
