FRISCO, Texas — The Dallas Cowboys are waiving guard Trevor Keegan, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reported Sunday.
Keegan turned 26 on Sunday. He has two accrued seasons, so he goes to waivers rather than straight to free agency. Rosters have to be at 53 by 5 p.m. CT. Claims process at noon CT Monday, practice squads at 5 p.m.
Dallas claimed Keegan off waivers from the Philadelphia Eagles on Aug. 28 last year, a week before the season opener in Philadelphia. The Chargers put in a claim on him the same day, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported. Because he arrived on a claim, Dallas took on his original Eagles rookie contract.
Trevor Keegan’s Season In Dallas
Keegan debuted Oct. 5 against the New York Jets. Dallas won 37-22. He played again Oct. 12 at Carolina, a 27-30 loss. Those two games, along with 6 offensive snaps, were his entire season.
Pro Football Focus graded him 58.2 overall. His pass-blocking grade was 77.3, his run-blocking grade 57.7. He allowed no pressures.
A neck injury ended his season. Dallas placed him on injured reserve Oct. 21 and activated him off IR on Feb. 15. He was healthy during the spring and reported to Oxnard to compete for a backup interior job behind Tyler Smith, Cooper Beebe, and Tyler Booker.
The Cowboys released offensive tackle Marcellus Johnson earlier Sunday. That leaves T.J. Bass, Nick Leverett, Chris Glaser, DJ Wingfield, and Sebastian Gutierrez as the interior depth behind the starters.
Trevor Keegan At Michigan And Philadelphia
The Eagles drafted Keegan in the fifth round, 172nd overall, out of Michigan in 2024. He dressed for one game as a rookie, the Week 18 finale, and won a ring when Philadelphia beat the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 in Super Bowl LIX.
Philadelphia kept him on the initial 53 last August and waived him a day later.
Keegan spent five years at Michigan and started 11 games at left guard in 2021, when the offensive line won the Joe Moore Award. He started 11 more in 2022 and made first-team All-Big Ten. He was second-team the following season, when Michigan won the national title.
He came into Michigan at 340 pounds and played the 2022 season at 305.
Keegan ran 5.24 in the 40 at the 2024 combine. He jumped 30.5 inches in the vertical and 8 feet, 11 inches in the broad.
Dallas cut wide receiver Denzel Mims on Saturday. The Cowboys are also waiving running backs Jaydon Blue and Phil Mafah, releasing wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and cutting tight end Michael Trigg with plans to bring him back on the practice squad. Week 1 is Sept. 13 at MetLife Stadium. Kickoff is 7:20 p.m. CT on NBC.
