FRISCO, Texas — The Dallas Cowboys signed offensive tackle Wanya Morris to the practice squad Tuesday, the club announced. The Atlanta Falcons waived Morris on Sunday in their cut to 53 players, and he went unclaimed when waiver claims processed at noon CT Monday.
Dallas signed defensive tackle Elijah Garcia on Tuesday as well. The two additions give the Cowboys 15 practice squad players, 14 of them in the 16 standard spots. Defensive tackle Adedayo Odeleye holds the 17th spot through the International Player Pathway exemption.
Wanya Morris’ Three Seasons With Kansas City
The Kansas City Chiefs drafted Morris in the third round in 2023, 92nd overall, with a pick acquired from the Cincinnati Bengals. He played 43 games with 16 starts across three seasons in Kansas City.
As a rookie, Morris appeared in 14 games with 4 starts and played 2 more in the postseason as the Chiefs won Super Bowl LVIII. In 2024 he played all 17 games and started 11 at left tackle. He took 734 offensive snaps that season, 64% of the Chiefs’ total. He also caught a 1-yard touchdown pass.
Last season, Morris played 12 games with 1 start and took 66 offensive snaps, 8% of Kansas City’s total. Kansas City placed him on injured reserve Dec. 13. His career totals are 1,139 offensive snaps and 185 on special teams, along with 12 penalties, 8 of them for holding.
On June 11 the Chiefs traded Morris and a 2027 seventh-round pick to Atlanta for a 2027 sixth-round pick. He did not make the Falcons’ initial 53-man roster.
Morris last played a regular-season game at AT&T Stadium on Nov. 27, when Dallas beat Kansas City 31-28 on Thanksgiving.
At 6-foot-6 and 307 pounds, Morris spent two seasons at Tennessee before transferring to Oklahoma, where he was a second-team All-Big 12 selection in 2022. He came out of Grayson High School in Georgia and is named after the Boyz II Men singer.
Dallas Cowboys Offensive Tackle Depth
Dallas traded for Broderick Jones on Friday and sent Nate Thomas to the Houston Texans for a 2027 seventh-round pick. Tyler Guyton is the starting left tackle. Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said Monday that Jones and Terence Steele will compete for the right tackle job. Rookie Drew Shelton and Ajani Cornelius are also on the 53-man roster, and Marcellus Johnson, waived Sunday, came back on the practice squad.
Practice Squad Spots And Week 1
Quarterback Joe Milton III remains a candidate for one of the two open standard spots. Dallas waived Milton on Monday as the corresponding move for the Emari Demercado waiver claim.
Dallas opens the season Sept. 13 at MetLife Stadium against the New York Giants. Kickoff is 7:20 p.m. CT on NBC.
