DETROIT — The Washington Wizards are interested in trading Anthony Davis to the Detroit Pistons for Jalen Duren, according to The Athletic.
However, the Pistons don’t want to do that deal.
“League sources also confirmed an ESPN report indicating that the Washington Wizards would have interest in a Duren-for-Anthony Davis trade, but that scenario – like all the others – does not appear to be of interest to the Pistons,” Sam Amick and Hunter Patterson of The Athletic wrote.
The Wizards acquired Davis from the Dallas Mavericks last season. Davis didn’t play for Washington last season because of ligament damage in his left hand.
Meanwhile, Duren wasn’t at Pistons media day. He’s a restricted free agent.
Pistons Remove Weight Clause From $200 Million Offer To Duren
Duren recently rebuffed a five-year, $200 million offer from the Pistons because of a weight clause.
The weight clause has been removed, per Amick and Patterson.
Duren is eligible for a five-year, $287 million max deal. He has until 11:59 p.m. ET Thursday to accept the five-year, $200 million deal from the Pistons or a one-year, $9.6 million qualifying offer that would make him an unrestricted free agent next offseason.
The Pistons defeated the Orlando Magic in the first round of the 2026 playoffs in seven games but lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the second round in seven games.
Duren, 22, averaged just 10.2 points and 8.5 rebounds per game against the Magic and Cavaliers. It was his first NBA playoff run.
Duren played well in the 2025-26 regular season, averaging 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game while shooting 65.0% from the field. He recorded 41 double-doubles in 70 games and made his first All-Star team and All-NBA team.
A Memphis product, Duren was the 13th overall pick in the 2022 draft. He holds career averages of 13.5 points and 10.3 rebounds per game in the regular season.
Davis To Wait Until Next Offseason To Discuss Extension With Wizards
Davis will wait until next offseason to discuss an extension with the Wizards if he doesn’t get traded this season.
The future Hall of Famer will make $58.5 million this season. He has a player option worth $62.8 million for the 2027-28 season.
“When the season is over. We’re going to go through the season and try to do what I do at a high level,” Davis said at Wizards media day. “And then when it’s over, sit down and have those conversations again with the front office.”
Davis has played for the New Orleans Pelicans, Los Angeles Lakers and Mavericks. He’s a 10-time All-Star and one-time NBA champion.
A top-75 player of all time, Davis has career averages of 24.0 points, 10.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.3 steals and 2.3 blocks per game in the regular season and 26.1 points, 11.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.3 steals and 2.2 blocks per game in the playoffs.
Davis, 33, has made five All-NBA teams and five All-Defensive teams. He won the 2020 championship with the Lakers against the Miami Heat at the Walt Disney World bubble.
Davis appeared in only 29 games with the Mavericks, who traded Luka Dončić to the Lakers to acquire the Kentucky product in what is considered one of the worst trades in NBA history. Davis averaged 20.2 points, 10.8 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 0.9 steals and 1.8 blocks per contest with Dallas.
