WASHINGTON, D.C. — Anthony Davis will wait until next offseason to discuss an extension with the Washington Wizards.
Davis will make $58.5 million this season. He has a player option worth $62.8 million for the 2027-28 season.
“When the season is over. We’re going to go through the season and try to do what I do at a high level,” Davis said at Wizards media day. “And then when it’s over, sit down and have those conversations again with the front office.”
The Wizards acquired Davis from the Dallas Mavericks last season.
Davis didn’t play for Washington last season because of ligament damage in his left hand. The Chicago native finished the 2025-26 campaign with averages of 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game.
A top-75 player of all time, Davis has played for the New Orleans Pelicans, Los Angeles Lakers and Mavericks. He’s a 10-time All-Star and one-time NBA champion with career averages of 24.0 points, 10.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.3 steals and 2.3 blocks per game in the regular season and 26.1 points, 11.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.3 steals and 2.2 blocks per game in the playoffs.
Davis, 33, has made five All-NBA teams and five All-Defensive teams. He won the 2020 championship with the Lakers against the Miami Heat at the Walt Disney World bubble.
Davis appeared in only 29 games with the Mavericks, who traded Luka Dončić to the Lakers to acquire the Kentucky product in what is considered one of the worst trades in NBA history. Davis averaged 20.2 points, 10.8 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 0.9 steals and 1.8 blocks per contest with Dallas.
Washington signed Trae Young to a four-year, $210 million extension in July, so you know Davis wants to get paid as well. The Wizards acquired Young from the Atlanta Hawks last season.
“I ain’t on it too much,” Young told ESPN with a smile in July. “I think he knows where he wants to be right now.”
Washington drafted AJ Dybantsa with the first overall pick in this year’s draft, reunited with Khris Middleton in free agency and acquired Deandre Ayton from the Lakers.
The Wizards, who haven’t made the playoffs since 2021, are expected to start Young, Kyshawn George, Dybantsa, Davis and Alex Sarr this season.
“Doing what they’re doing shows that we’re trying to win,” Davis said. “Now change the narrative around the Wizards of being this off night that people would say. You going to DC or DC come to town, you know, guys stay up a little later and kind of mess around the game. So, kind of change that narrative of how we want to be the team that we want to be for this season. So, I’m very excited about that.”
The Wizards begin the 2026-27 season at home against the Milwaukee Bucks.
