WASHINGTON, D.C. — It’s only one game, but Trae Young and Anthony Davis looked really good together in their first official contest as teammates on the Washington Wizards.

Young and Davis combined for 54 points on opening night against the Milwaukee Bucks, helping the Wizards win by a final score of 128-116.

Davis had 34 points and 12 rebounds in 34 minutes while shooting 11-of-20 from the field, 1-of-3 from beyond the arc and 11-of-14 from the free-throw line in his first regular-season game with the Wizards. The future Hall of Famer got MVP chants from the Capital One Arena crowd.

“It felt great,” Davis said. “It’s been nine months since I played a real game, so it felt really good to be out on the floor and compete again with these guys. Even better when you can get the win. I had so much fun tonight and a lot of emotion and a lot of energy.”

Young, playing in his sixth regular-season game with Washington, put up 20 points and 13 assists in 38 minutes. He shot 4-of-13 overall and 12-of-16 from the foul line and is eager to help Davis have a special season.

“I just knew he was gonna be ready and I wasn’t surprised by what he did tonight,” Young said. “I don’t wanna put too much pressure on him, but for me, having a guy like that, I wanna help him get the MVP. Nights like tonight, and we continue to win games, he’s gonna be in the conversation.”

Davis is making $58.5 million this season. He has a player option worth $62.8 million for the 2027-28 season.

At Wizards media day, Davis said he will wait until next offseason to discuss an extension with the Wizards, who haven’t made the playoffs since 2021.

Washington signed Young to a four-year, $210 million extension in July. Young was traded by the Atlanta Hawks to the Wizards last season.

Next up for Washington is a matchup against the Toronto Raptors, who are 1-0 as well.
