ARLINGTON, Texas — The Texas Rangers recalled left-hander Robby Ahlstrom and right-hander Ben Peoples from Triple-A Round Rock on Monday, the club announced.
The two moves correspond to 15-day injured list placements for right-handers Peyton Gray and Cole Winn.
Robby Ahlstrom Returns Three Days After Being Optioned
Texas optioned Ahlstrom to Round Rock on Aug. 28 to open a bullpen spot for left-hander Adam Macko. An optioned player must ordinarily spend 15 days in the minors before a recall. However, the exception covers a recall that replaces a player placed on the injured list.
In 36 appearances this season, Ahlstrom is 3-1 with a 6.03 ERA over 31 1/3 innings. He has 28 strikeouts against 10 walks and a 1.372 WHIP, and opponents are hitting .268 against him. Over his past seven outings, Ahlstrom has allowed 12 hits and 10 earned runs in 6 2/3 innings.
His most recent appearance came Aug. 26 on the road against the Chicago White Sox (1.0 IP, 4 H, 5 ER, 1 BB, 0 SO). Two of the four hits left the yard.
Texas selected Ahlstrom’s contract on June 1 and moved Robert Garcia to the 60-day injured list for the 40-man spot. Ahlstrom debuted June 3 at Busch Stadium against the St. Louis Cardinals, retiring all four batters faced, with two by strikeout.
The New York Yankees drafted Ahlstrom in the seventh round in 2021 out of the University of Oregon. Texas acquired him in an April 2022 trade that sent catcher Jose Trevino to New York. He turned 27 on June 18.
Ben Peoples Back With Texas After June Trade
Peoples is 0-1 with a 2.51 ERA over 14 appearances and 14 1/3 innings this season, with 8 strikeouts and 6 walks.
Texas acquired Peoples from the White Sox on June 30 for High-A catcher Ben Hartl, selected his contract July 2, and he debuted July 4 at 25. His most recent recall came on Aug. 10, when Nathan Eovaldi went on the injured list.
The Tampa Bay Rays drafted Peoples in the 22nd round in 2019, 668th overall, out of Giles County High School in Pulaski, Tenn. Tampa Bay moved him from starting to relief in 2025 and traded him to Chicago on July 31 of that year.
Texas Rangers Sit At 38 Before Rosters Expand
With Monday’s transactions, the Rangers have 38 players on the club’s Major League roster.
Active rosters across the majors expand from 26 players to 28 on Tuesday, and the limit on pitchers goes from 13 to 14 for the rest of the regular season. Third baseman Josh Jung remains on the 10-day injured list. He has yet to clear sprint and agility testing.
The homestand features seven games in seven days, starting with three against the Athletics and four against the Rays. Tampa Bay leads the American League East at 82-54. Texas is 67-70, second in the American League West and two games behind the Houston Astros. Monday’s first pitch at Globe Life Field is at 7:05 p.m. CT on Rangers Sports Network.
