ARLINGTON, Texas — The Texas Rangers placed right-hander Peyton Gray on the 15-day injured list Monday with right elbow inflammation, the club announced before its series opener against the Athletics. Right-hander Cole Winn went on the 15-day list in the same set of moves with a right rotator cuff strain.
Gray’s stint is retroactive to Aug. 30, and Winn’s is retroactive to Aug. 28. Left-hander Robby Ahlstrom and right-hander Ben Peoples were recalled from Triple-A Round Rock in the corresponding moves.
Peyton Gray Reports Arm Soreness In Milwaukee
On Sunday in Milwaukee, Gray reported arm soreness and was scheduled for further examination. His last outing came the night before at American Family Field (1.0 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 SO). A second run scored on an error behind him.
Through 48 appearances, Gray is 6-0 with a 3.93 ERA over 55 innings. He has 58 strikeouts against 16 walks and a 1.291 WHIP, and he has allowed 9 home runs. Opponents are batting .251 against him. Over his past two weeks of work, Gray gave up 7 runs in 7 innings.
Texas selected Gray’s contract from Round Rock on April 23, and he debuted that night against the Pittsburgh Pirates at age 30. That was the oldest Rangers debut since left-hander Hyeon-jong Yang in 2021. He signed with the organization as a minor league free agent in January 2025, seven years after entering pro ball undrafted out of Florida Gulf Coast University. He turned 31 on June 2.
Cole Winn’s Second Injured List Stint Of 2026
Winn’s first stay on the list this season began May 24. Texas activated him June 9.
In 51 games, Winn is 5-3 with a 5.63 ERA over 48 innings, with 49 strikeouts and 16 walks. Winn and Tyler Alexander are the only Texas pitchers who have appeared in more games than Gray.
The Rangers drafted Winn 15th overall in 2018 out of Orange Lutheran High School in Orange, Calif. He is out of minor league options.
Last season, Winn went 0-1 with a 1.51 ERA over 33 relief appearances and 41 2/3 innings, striking out 35. He worked 17 games at Round Rock with a 0.59 ERA.
Robert Garcia And Carter Baumler Head To Round Rock
Left-hander Robert Garcia and right-hander Carter Baumler are expected to report to Round Rock this week. Both have been on the 60-day injured list since the spring. Garcia has not pitched since April 16. Baumler last appeared April 4 and went on the list the following day, the first roster move of the Texas season.
On Aug. 26, right-hander Jack Leiter reported biceps soreness after a one-inning rehab outing at Round Rock. Leiter had ankle surgery June 23 and has not pitched for Texas since June 18. Round Rock closes its regular season Sept. 20.
Third baseman Josh Jung is doing just about all baseball activity and has sprint and agility testing left before he comes off the 10-day injured list.
Monday’s first pitch against the Athletics at Globe Life Field is 7:05 p.m. CT, the opener of a seven-game homestand. Texas is 67-70 after Sunday’s 7-4 win in Milwaukee, second in the American League West and two games behind the Houston Astros. The game airs on Rangers Sports Network.
