FRISCO, Texas — The Dallas Cowboys were expecting at least 3 points before halftime, Stephen Jones said Monday. They gave up 14 instead.
Dallas trailed 7-7 with under two minutes left in the second quarter when Quinnen Williams knocked the ball out of Tyrone Tracy Jr.‘s hands and cornerback Shavon Revel Jr. recovered at the 8-yard line.
“First of all, we make the great punch out by Q to get the ball out, hustling his ass,” Jones said on 105.3 The Fan‘s “K&C Masterpiece.” “Big 310-pound defensive tackle hustling his ass off 10 yards down the field. Gets the ball out. We make a huge play. And we feel good about, you know, feeling good about our offense and what we can do there.”
Jones continued: “And then what happened after that was just tough.”
George Pickens dropped a deep ball from Dak Prescott. Two plays later, Prescott was intercepted by safety Jevon Holland at the New York 45 on a throw he was trying to put out of bounds.
“I don’t think George Pickens dropped two balls in training camp the whole time,” Jones said. “And obviously that was a difficult one. I thought Dak made the perfect throw. And then certainly I know he wishes he had the one back, but he was having to throw off his back foot under pressure and I think still had confidence his arm could get the ball out of bounds. And unfortunately it didn’t.”

Jaxson Dart led a six-play, 55-yard drive that ended with a 15-yard touchdown to tight end Isaiah Likely with 20 seconds left. New York took the second-half kickoff and scored again.
“And we were expecting a minimum of three points right there going into halftime with a lead that would have really made you feel good about yourself, because it was a tough game at that point,” Jones said. “But then to turn around and give them a touchdown right before the end of the half and then for them to get the ball to start the second.”
Jones added: “But they put 14 points on the board, and they were up 21-7 when we could have, you know, really felt we had a great opportunity to take the score to 10-7 going into half. And I think you got a different game at that point.”
Jones said: “I think that was a real turning point in the game.”
Jones added: “But you still got hats off to them. They made the plays to win the game. And we’ve got to be better.”
Schottenheimer described the same stretch after the game and called it a double dip.
Where Dak Prescott Finished Against The New York Giants
Prescott finished 22-of-34 for 175 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 interception, and he was not sacked. He has now lost two straight starts against the Giants after winning 14 in a row.
Pickens and CeeDee Lamb each had passes go through their hands. Prescott backed both of them afterward. Last season the pair combined for 38 of the Cowboys’ 56 receptions of 20 or more yards.
Dallas hosts the Washington Commanders on Sunday at AT&T Stadium. Kickoff is 3:25 p.m. CT on FOX.
