‘Just Another Bump In The Road’: DeMarvion Overshown Aims To Return From Hamstring Injury At Green Bay

FRISCO, Texas — Dallas Cowboys linebacker DeMarvion Overshown said Monday that he feels good and plans to practice all week, with the hope of returning from a hamstring injury for Sunday night’s game at the Green Bay Packers. Coach Brian Schottenheimer said Overshown did a little work Monday and that his status is still to be determined.

Overshown hurt his right hamstring in the fourth quarter of the 28-20 season-opening loss to the New York Giants on Sept. 13, after making 7 tackles. He has missed the last four games. The 2023 third-round pick missed his rookie season with a torn ACL in his left knee, then tore the ACL, MCL, and PCL in his right knee in December 2024 and missed the first 10 games of 2025.

Overshown would not say whether he will play.

“I can’t answer that question, but I feel good. I feel good. Yes, sir. Much better than last week, too close to the Thursday game. Thursday, no practice, really physical practice, a lot of walkthroughs. But yeah, I feel good,” Overshown said.

DeMarvion Overshown On Another Month Out

The time away has been hard on him as a man, a father, and a son, Overshown said. He separated that from how “Agent O,” the Cowboys linebacker, has to handle it.

“For DeMarvion Overshown, it’s hard. As a man, as a father, as a son, you want to do whatever you can to make your family happy. You want to be out on the field. You know how much you sacrifice all year, all season, just to play healthy, especially being in my shoes,” Overshown explained. “It’s hard for me, but I feel like the Agent O, the Cowboys linebacker, it’s just another bump in the road. I’ve been here before. Look, I have all my faith in God, his plan.”

“So who am I to question whether it was getting hurt the first game or getting hurt the 10th game. You never want it to happen,” Overshown continued. “If it’s in his will, I’m going to let it be done. And I’m just going to continue to work every day. I want to play. I want to be out there. But it’s football. And I just got to protect my body, take care of myself.”

Overshown said he feels better than he did when he got hurt and can do everything he could before the injury. Hamstrings are tricky, he said.

“I can just say I feel better than what I felt when the injury happened. I’m running around. I’m doing everything you can as a football player. Like I say, these hammies are tricky, so you can have six good days in a row and then out of nowhere something happens,” Overshown said. “So right now I’m feeling great. I’m feeling like I can run around and do everything I could before the injury. At this point, it’s just how practice go throughout the week, how [the hamstring handles] all the stresses of a full 60 minutes of football.”

DeMarvion Overshown On Jaishawn Barham And His Role

Rookie Jaishawn Barham has worn the green dot and called the defense in Overshown’s absence. Overshown said Barham has treated the role as a sign of respect.

“He’s a dog. I feel like I’ve been saying that since camp, and we’ve been saying it since camp. He’s a dog, he’s getting better every week, he’s learning. He’s definitely took the green dot role and treated it as a sign of respect, authority. Took it as a patch of honor, like let me run the show as a rookie,” Overshown said. “And he’s been doing good, I’ve been trying to do my best, however I can help him. But he’s going to be a player, a great player for a long time for this team and in the league in general.”

Overshown said his energy and passion are what he brings back, whatever the rotation looks like.

“Just my energy, my passion, and I feel like I’m a pretty good football player. Getting me back on the field, whether that’s with J, D, anybody, any other rotation that we’re going to have, I feel like it’s just going to better our room, which is going to better the defense, which is going to better the team overall,” Overshown said. “I like to look at myself as one of the guys on this team. So I get back on the field, I can definitely help in some way or some fashion.”

Schottenheimer said the Cowboys will know more Wednesday and Thursday, when the team gets into full pads. Kickoff at Lambeau Field is set for 7:20 p.m. CT on Sunday, Oct. 18, on NBC.
