Cowboys Injury Update: DaRon Bland, Caelen Carson Sent Home Ill As DeMarvion Overshown’s Status For Green Bay Stays TBD

FRISCO, Texas — Dallas Cowboys cornerbacks DaRon Bland and Caelen Carson went home ill Monday, and linebacker DeMarvion Overshown’s status for Sunday night’s game at the Green Bay Packers is still to be determined, coach Brian Schottenheimer said.

Monday was the Cowboys’ first practice after three days off following Thursday night’s 24-16 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Cornerbacks Ameer Speed and Shavon Revel had sore knees, which Schottenheimer said were not a concern. Safety Alijah Clark and offensive tackle Drew Shelton did not practice because of hamstring injuries, and cornerback Cobie Durant is ramping up his rehab.

“So we have DaRon and Caelen Carson went home. They were both feeling ill. Ameer Speed and Shavon Revel, they both had sore knees, nothing that we’re concerned about. Cobie Durant is ramping up his rehab, and Demo, again, did a little bit today, but his status for Green Bay is still TBD,” Schottenheimer said. “And then Alijah Clark and Drew Shelton both have hamstrings and did not practice.”

Illness Again Hits The Cowboys’ Secondary

Cornerback Joey Porter Jr. missed Thursday’s game after falling ill at the stadium, and receiver Jonathan Mingo was on the injury report before the game. Schottenheimer said he is not worried about a bug going around the building.

“No, I don’t think so. I think we’ve all had a little bit of something, but nothing that I’m concerned about,” Schottenheimer said.

Bland played all 72 defensive snaps Thursday and finished with 5 tackles and a pass breakup. Revel was hurt during a third-quarter play and returned early in the fourth quarter, and Clark left in the first half with his hamstring injury and did not return. Shelton and Durant were inactive against Tampa Bay.

DeMarvion Overshown’s Return Timeline

Overshown hurt his right hamstring in the fourth quarter of the season-opening 28-20 loss to the New York Giants on Sept. 13 and has missed the last four games. He said Monday that he feels good and plans to practice all week. Schottenheimer said the Cowboys will lean on the player and the sports science department.

“Yeah, I mean, again, we do a good job. We listen to players. We obviously listen to the sports science department. I think the reason right now it’s TBD is today was more of a get them back moving again. They’ve had three days off, and we want them out there running around a little bit,” Schottenheimer explained. “But we’ll know a lot more come Wednesday when we get out there, and then even Thursday as we get going into full pads.”

“It’s going to be nice to be back into a normal flow of a week. We just don’t want to rush anything. We’ve got time. Don’t have to rush anything,” Schottenheimer continued. “And I think that’s why we are viewing it that way.”

Overshown would not say whether he expects to play.

“I can’t answer that question, but I feel good. I feel good. Yes, sir. Much better than last week, too close to the Thursday game. Thursday, no practice, really physical practice, a lot of walkthroughs. But yeah, I feel good,” Overshown said.

Schottenheimer’s Monday update did not mention receiver CeeDee Lamb, who aggravated a quad injury Thursday and returned, or left tackle Tyler Guyton, who was set for more tests on his back. Kickoff at Lambeau Field is set for 7:20 p.m. CT on Sunday, Oct. 18, on NBC.
