FRISCO, Texas — DeMarvion Overshown has missed 32 games in three NFL seasons. The Dallas Cowboys linebacker said Tuesday at The Star that being healthy is the least of his concern now.
Overshown said the linebackers have set a standard for their room and that Brian Schottenheimer set one for the team, and that winning is the goal from the first string through the fourth.
“Being healthy is the least of my concern now. That’s just football now. I’m glad I was able to get over that hurdle, but now it’s just about winning,” Overshown said. “I feel confident in what we put together over the offseason, what we still stacking through this fall camp.”
“But throughout the season, I’m just excited about what we built. This brotherhood is something different,” Overshown continued. “And I’m just ready to lay it all out on the line for the other 10 on the field.”
DeMarvion Overshown’s Three Seasons
Dallas drafted Overshown in the third round, No. 90 overall, out of Texas in 2023. He tore the ACL in his left knee in a preseason game that August and missed his entire rookie year.
Overshown played 13 games in 2024 and recorded 90 tackles, 5.0 sacks, 4 passes defensed, an interception he returned 23 yards for a touchdown against the New York Giants on Thanksgiving, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. He tore the ACL, MCL, and PCL in his right knee against Cincinnati on Dec. 9 that year.
He returned against the Las Vegas Raiders on Nov. 17 last season, 343 days later, after missing the first nine games. Overshown played 6 games, took 218 defensive snaps, and recorded 28 tackles. A concussion sustained in the Week 16 loss to the Chargers cost him the final two.
Where DeMarvion Overshown Fits In Christian Parker’s Defense
Overshown practiced at middle and weakside linebacker during minicamp this offseason and wore no knee brace, according to Jon Machota of The Athletic. He was limited in one training camp practice with a lower-body issue.
Christian Parker took over the defense in January and runs a 3-4 front. Jaishawn Barham started next to Overshown at Arizona on Saturday night and wore the green dot. Shemar James has also taken first-team reps, and Dallas traded for Dee Winters this offseason.
The Cowboys allowed 511 points last season, 30.1 per game, which ranked last in the NFL.
What Is Left Before Dallas Cowboys Cuts
Wednesday brings one more open practice at The Star. Dallas hosts the New Orleans Saints on Friday at 7 p.m. CT on CBS to close the preseason.
The roster has to be down to 53 by 5 p.m. CT Sunday, with waiver claims due at noon the following day.
