Dallas Cowboys Rookie Devin Moore To Miss At Least 4 Games With Hip Injury

FRISCO, Texas — Devin Moore will miss at least the first four games of the season. The Dallas Cowboys placed the rookie cornerback on reserve/injured with a designation to return, and Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said Monday that the injury is to his hip.

Dallas took Moore 114th overall in April, in the fourth round out of Florida. He is one of two players the club moved to that list ahead of the 53-man deadline, along with outside linebacker Marist Liufau.

Tight end DJ Rogers was waived with an injury designation. Rogers goes on waivers, and if he clears, he reverts to the Cowboys’ injured reserve unless the two sides reach an injury settlement.

A player on reserve/injured with a designation to return has to sit out the first four games. He can begin practicing after that and be activated to the 53-man roster at any point once he is eligible.

Marist Liufau Has Not Had Surgery Yet

Liufau broke his forearm in the preseason finale against the New Orleans Saints on Friday. Schottenheimer said Monday that the surgery has not happened.

“No, I don’t believe he has,” Schottenheimer said. “But he’s got the fractured forearm, IR, DFR, Devin Moore, IR, DFR with a hip. And then, you know, DJ Rogers was waived with the injury.”

Dallas kept four linebackers on the initial 53. Liufau started 12 games last season.

The Dallas Cowboys Cornerback Room Without Devin Moore

Dallas kept five cornerbacks. Caelen Carson, Ameer Speed, and Cobie Durant are on the roster, and the club signed Derion Kendrick and Reddy Steward to the practice squad Monday after releasing both Sunday.

Moore was the second of five defensive players Dallas took in the 2026 draft. Five of the seven picks made the initial roster, with Moore going to the reserve list and seventh-round receiver Anthony Smith waived and re-signed to the practice squad.

Dallas has 13 days until the opener at the New York Giants on Sept. 13. Kickoff at MetLife Stadium is at 7:20 p.m. CT on NBC.
