‘Speak Up On It’: Dak Prescott Urges Players To Tell Trainers Everything After Jalen Hurts’ Blood Clot

FRISCO, Texas — Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott said this week that players should tell trainers about anything bothering their bodies, after Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts was ruled out with a blood clot found days after he took a hit.
The Eagles said Hurts was cleated in a Week 4 game against the Los Angeles Rams and kept practicing, then had an ultrasound in London that showed a small clot. A follow-up showed movement in the clot, and Philadelphia ruled him out for Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers, CBS Philadelphia reported. Dallas plays at Philadelphia on Oct. 26.
“Yeah, I mean, I’m in a fortunate situation and standpoint now, obviously, being this far into my career. Younger to me, it’s about making good relationships with those guys. And, yeah, I mean, I don’t want to say tell them. Yeah, tell them everything, right? And you can get a heads up on it. You can tell them and just say, yeah, it’s fine. I’m just letting you know,” Prescott said Thursday. “So I encourage all athletes, like, don’t be shy if something’s bothering you. Like, speak up on it. But also, this is a tough man’s sport at the end of the day. Let them know if you’re fine. I’m just warning you. I’m just alerting you so you can get ahead of things like this.”
Why Dak Prescott Wants Players To Learn Their Bodies
Prescott said he heard about Hurts’ diagnosis at practice. He said blood clots put a player’s life at stake, especially with travel involved.
“I just heard about it really at practice. And yeah, it’s scary. When you get things like that, blood clots, you’re talking about somebody’s life, especially what plane trip and all that they took. Yeah, it’s scary,” Prescott explained. “So you feeling something, speak up on it. Like I said, I’m fortunate. I’ve got Luke Miller, and yeah, I mean, he’s on things before I’m on things at times, and I try to blow things off, and he’s like, no, no, no, let’s look at this and let me get a better check on it. And so I encourage people to be open about their body and learn their body.”
Hurts’ Absence Pulls Joe Milton Off The Cowboys’ Practice Squad
The Eagles signed quarterback Joe Milton III off the Cowboys’ practice squad on Friday. Tanner McKee is expected to start for Philadelphia against Carolina.
The Cowboys visit the Green Bay Packers on Sunday night, with kickoff at Lambeau Field set for 7:20 p.m. CT on NBC.
