‘Back To Square One Now’: CeeDee Lamb Says Thigh Bruise Started At Houston, Feels Recovered For Green Bay

FRISCO, Texas — Dallas Cowboys receiver CeeDee Lamb said Thursday that his thigh bruise happened in the second quarter of the Cowboys’ win at Houston, that he aggravated it last Thursday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and that the mini-bye got him back to square one before Sunday night’s game at the Green Bay Packers.
Lamb set a career high with 17 catches for 189 yards and caught the go-ahead touchdown in the 34-30 win over the Houston Texans on Oct. 4. Against Tampa Bay, he caught 2 passes for 9 yards, left in the fourth quarter after taking another hit to the same spot, and returned.
“It actually happened in the second quarter of the Houston game. Obviously, it was seamless because y’all got distracted by everything else that was going on. But, yeah, although I was playing through some injuries and then that happened. And then got the recovery I needed throughout the week, I thought I needed it at least,” Lamb said. “Then I got [re-aggravated]. I got tackled, hit it twice in the same play. And I was like, you know what? Yeah, there’s not really much I can do. I couldn’t really stop. But as far as extra days, I took advantage immediately. Got a lot of time to rest. Got a lot of time to get some rehab. So I’m kind of back to square one now.”
Lose, Win, Lose, Win, Lose: CeeDee Lamb Wants A Streak
Dallas has alternated wins and losses this season. Lamb said the Cowboys have to figure out how to stack wins.
“For starters, we’ve got to win. Obviously, as we know, for the last five games, there’s been a lot of lose, win, lose, win, lose, right? So we’ve got to figure out how. We’ve got to figure out how we’re going to be able to stack these wins,” Lamb explained. “We’ve got to be able to stack wins and not really do this off-and-on thing, because at the end of the day, that’s not going to look good for us at the end.”
When the defense gets a stop, Lamb said, the offense has to score rather than wait for pressure.
“When the defense do get a stop, I feel like personally we got to go score. We can’t just score when we feel like the pressure is on us, which we always overcome, and I feel like we do score, and it’s an off-and-on thing. But when our defense do get a stop, I feel like we do got to capitalize, and if we do that, then we’ll be able to pull away,” Lamb said.
‘11 Minutes Is Crazy’
Tampa Bay held the ball for 10:58 on its first drive after Dallas scored on its opening possession. Lamb called the wait unique, and said the Cowboys score fast.
“We’re scoring four minutes, then the next time we get the ball is in the second quarter. That’s kind of, I’ve never really been a part of anything like that, but I will say that was very unique. And as for us, we just got to stay stressed, stay ready, and whenever our opportunity presents, go ball,” Lamb said. “11 minutes is crazy, though.”
Watching Dak Prescott From The Sideline In The 40-40 Tie
Lamb missed last season’s 40-40 tie with the Packers. Quarterback Dak Prescott was flawless that night, Lamb said.
“I would say that he was definitely flawless. He was playing with a chip on his shoulder. And obviously, he was able to carry us. I mean, unfortunately, we didn’t come out with a win, but we didn’t come out with a loss either,” Lamb said. “Well, it was unfortunate that I was on the sideline, but I was happy to see that those guys connect very well.”
Shots For CeeDee Lamb And George Pickens
Coach Brian Schottenheimer said Friday that Green Bay will take deep shots, and that Dallas will too with Lamb and George Pickens.
“The good news is when you take some of those shots, which we do to our guys, George and CeeDee as well, it is truly a 50-50 ball. So hopefully we can come down with a couple of them,” Schottenheimer said.
Lamb practiced fully all week and carries no game status on the final injury report. Kickoff at Lambeau Field is set for 7:20 p.m. CT on Sunday, Oct. 18, on NBC.
