Dallas Cowboys Rule Out DeMarvion Overshown, Cobie Durant vs. Houston Texans; Malik Hooker, Shavon Revel Cleared

FRISCO, Texas — The Dallas Cowboys ruled out linebacker DeMarvion Overshown and cornerback Cobie Durant for Sunday’s game at the Houston Texans, while safety Malik Hooker and cornerback Shavon Revel Jr. closed the week as full participants and carry no injury designation.

Both Overshown and Durant have hamstring injuries and did not practice Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday, according to the final injury report released by the Texans. Overshown will miss his third straight game. Durant will miss his second.

Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer gave the injury rundown before Friday’s practice. Revel would begin the day working with the athletic training staff, Overshown would not be back for Houston, and Hooker was trending toward playing.

“Yeah, I’ll hit all the injured guys. Revel will start with Britt today and see how he does with that and try to get him going into practice. We’ll see how that goes,” Schottenheimer said. “Demo will not be back for Houston. Hook is trending towards playing. And then Cobie Durant is still doing a good job with his rehab, but he’s still got a little ways to go.”

DeMarvion Overshown Has No Setback, Brian Schottenheimer Says

There had been some hope the week before the Brazil trip that Overshown could return sooner. Schottenheimer said there was no setback.

“No, just part of the process. Soft tissue injuries sometimes are finicky,” Schottenheimer said.

Revel was hurt in his first start of the season in Sunday’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Schottenheimer said Tuesday it was not the knee Revel injured in college, describing a knee and ankle issue. Revel did not practice Wednesday or Thursday before practicing fully Friday. Hooker was limited Wednesday and Thursday with a forearm injury and practiced fully Friday.

Joey Porter Jr. Carries No Designation For Cowboys Debut

Cornerback Joey Porter Jr., acquired from the Pittsburgh Steelers on Wednesday night, does not appear on the injury report. Chief operating officer Stephen Jones said on 105.3 The Fan after Friday’s practice that the team expects Porter to get snaps.

Schottenheimer said Friday that Porter needed to stack a second strong practice, with red-zone defense added to the install.

“I think we’ve got a really good plan that if he does play, where we will use him and what that will look like,” Schottenheimer said. “But adding the red zone defenses in there today will be a big part of us feeling comfortable about doing it. But like I said yesterday, he’s trending in the right way and he’s working really hard at it.”

Outside linebacker James Houston IV practiced fully all week with a shoulder injury and has no designation.

Houston ruled out linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair with a groin injury and safety M.J. Stewart with a knee injury. Defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, defensive end Logan Hall, linebacker Jake Hansen, and guard Ed Ingram are questionable. Wide receiver Nico Collins practiced fully Friday and has no designation after missing the last two games with a hamstring injury.

Dallas elevated safety Juanyeh Thomas and cornerback Reddy Steward from the practice squad Saturday. Safeties Jalen Thompson and P.J. Locke are on injured reserve.

Kickoff at Reliant Stadium is set for noon CT on Fox.
