Dallas Cowboys Elevate Juanyeh Thomas, Reddy Steward For Houston Texans Game As Injuries Mount

HOUSTON — The Dallas Cowboys elevated safety Juanyeh Thomas and cornerback Reddy Steward from their practice squad Saturday for Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans, Joe Hoyt of The Dallas Morning News reported.

Steward’s elevation is his second in as many weeks. Dallas brought him up before the Week 3 game against the Baltimore Ravens in Rio de Janeiro after cornerback Cobie Durant was ruled out with a hamstring injury. Durant was ruled out again Friday and will miss his second straight game.

Thomas is being elevated for the first time this season. He returned to Dallas on Wednesday, when the Cowboys signed him to the practice squad along with cornerbacks Alex Austin and Tyrek Funderburk.

Cowboys Secondary Without Jalen Thompson, P.J. Locke, And Cobie Durant

The secondary has lost three regulars since Week 2. Safety P.J. Locke went on injured reserve with a foot injury from the win over the Washington Commanders. Safety Jalen Thompson went on injured reserve Wednesday with a hamstring strain from the loss to Baltimore.

Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said Friday that he has not been around a secondary this injured in 25 years. Dallas added cornerback Joey Porter Jr. in a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Wednesday night, sending a 2028 second-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick to Pittsburgh. Porter carries no injury designation.

Juanyeh Thomas And Reddy Steward Add Experience In The Cowboys Secondary

Thomas signed with Dallas as an undrafted free agent out of Georgia Tech in 2022 and played 36 games for the Cowboys from 2023 through 2025, recording 53 tackles. He returned a punt 43 yards for a touchdown in 2024. Thomas signed with the Indianapolis Colts on March 16 before coming back to Dallas this week.

Steward joined Dallas on a waiver claim from the Minnesota Vikings in August 2025. He played in all 17 games last season with five starts, much of it at slot cornerback, and recorded 1.5 sacks.

Houston made a move involving a former Cowboy on Saturday. The Texans elevated linebacker Kenneth Murray from their practice squad, Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle reported. Murray, a former first-round pick, had one sack and one fumble recovery in 17 games with 16 starts for Dallas last season.

The Texans ruled out linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair with a groin injury and safety M.J. Stewart with a knee injury Friday, according to the Texans’ final injury report.

Linebacker DeMarvion Overshown and Durant are the only Cowboys ruled out. Kickoff at Reliant Stadium is set for noon CT Sunday on Fox.
