DALLAS — Von Miller said winning a Super Bowl with the Dallas Cowboys would complete a personal goal of winning three titles with three different teams, and that chasing it was part of why he left the Los Angeles Rams after winning one there.
Miller made the comments on the Season 2 premiere of Free Range with Von Miller, the podcast he hosts with Audacy and posts to his YouTube channel. Mark Cuban was the guest. TJ Banks co-hosts the show.
Miller has won two Super Bowls. He was the Most Valuable Player of Super Bowl 50 on Feb. 7, 2016, recording 6 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles in Denver’s 24-10 win over Carolina. He had 2 sacks and 3 quarterback hits in the Rams’ 23-20 win over Cincinnati in Super Bowl LVI on Feb. 13, 2022. His 4.5 career sacks in Super Bowls are tied with DeMarcus Ware‘s former Dallas predecessor Charles Haley for the most in league history.
Miller agreed to a one-year contract with Dallas on Aug. 16 worth $5.5 million, with a maximum of $7.5 million. He is 37 and entering his 15th season.
Cuban owned the Dallas Mavericks from 2000 to 2023 and remains a minority owner. He founded the Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company in 2022.
Mark Cuban On What Gets Mistaken For Greatness
Cuban said people presume they know what he is about because of his bank account.
“I think overconfidence, arrogance,” Cuban said. “When people start talking about themselves, building yourself up and saying how great you are. I think a lot of people think that shows confidence and you must have done something if they don’t know your whole story. But typically, the people that are great, you already know it by what they’ve accomplished. You don’t have to tell them. You know what Von has done, right? He doesn’t have to tell you any of that.”
Von Miller’s Goal Of Three Titles With Three Teams
Miller said everywhere he has gone, his team has been in contention for a Super Bowl.
“One of my personal goals of mine is to win three Super Bowls with three different teams. Nobody’s ever done it,” Miller said.
“Matt Millen, he won with three different teams, but on his third team for the Super Bowl, he was inactive. So he didn’t actually play in the game. He was inactive, but his team won,” Miller continued. “But nobody has played on three different teams and played in three different Super Bowls in NFL history. And that is a dream of mine.”
Matt Millen is the only player to win Super Bowls with three different franchises. He won two with the Raiders, one with the San Francisco 49ers, and one with Washington, though he was deactivated for that fourth game, Super Bowl XXVI. Kenjon Barner also collected rings from three teams, with Philadelphia after Super Bowl LII, New England after Super Bowl LIII, and Tampa Bay after Super Bowl LV, but he appeared in only the first of those games.
The narrower version of the record has been reached. Bill Romanowski played in five Super Bowls for three franchises, winning two with the 49ers and two with Denver before losing Super Bowl XXXVII with the Raiders. No player has won three while playing in all three.
Von Miller Says He Left Los Angeles Chasing Greatness
Miller said he once thought he would spend his whole career in Denver.
“That was part of the reason why I left L.A. after winning the Super Bowl, was to be able to have another chance to win with another team,” Miller explained. “If I would have stayed in L.A., I never would have had the opportunity. Even if we won another Super Bowl, it would just be two Super Bowls with this team.”
“But I was chasing greatness,” Miller added. “I felt like going to Buffalo would give me the opportunity to add to my legacy.”
Denver traded Miller to Los Angeles on Nov. 1, 2021. He had 5 sacks in eight regular season games for the Rams and 4 more across four playoff games. He signed a six-year contract worth $120 million with the Buffalo Bills in March 2022 and spent three seasons there. Buffalo did not reach a Super Bowl in that span.
Miller played 2025 with the Washington Commanders, where he had 9.0 sacks in 17 games on 420 defensive snaps, 37% of the team’s total.
The Cowboys open the regular season Sept. 13 at the New York Giants. Kickoff at MetLife Stadium is set for 7:20 p.m. CT on NBC.
