CARROLLTON, Texas — Dallas Stars center Tyler Seguin declined Tuesday to say whether he will be available for the Oct. 2 season opener against the St. Louis Blues. Seguin took questions at the Dallas Stars Foundation’s annual Drive Fore the Kids golf tournament, in an availability reported by Robert Tiffin of NHL.com.
Seguin’s answer was to keep working and see where the knee is.
“I expect to keep getting better every day,” Seguin said. “Continuing to work and seeing where I’m at. One day at a time.”
Recovery from the procedure averages around nine months, according to NHL.com. Dr. Dan Cooper operated on Dec. 16, which puts Seguin at that mark now.
Seguin has been skating with teammates at the Stars’ practice facility in Frisco in recent weeks, part of the captain’s skate. He and the team have been cautious about setting a date.
Stars general manager Jim Nill told NHL Network last week that Seguin is where he should be.
“He’s back on the ice. He’s feeling good,” Nill said. “He’s at the nine-month mark, which for ACL injuries, that’s a pretty good window. So, he feels good. He’s excited. He wants to get back at it. It’s a big year for him.”
Nill also said Seguin was Dallas’ third-leading scorer when he went down and had been killing penalties.
Seguin had 7 goals, 10 assists, and 17 points in 27 games last season. He was plus-10 and won 53.6% of his faceoffs.
Tyler Seguin’s Contract Situation With The Dallas Stars
Seguin is in the final year of the eight-year, $78.8 million contract he signed in 2018. The deal carries a $9.85 million cap hit against a $104 million salary cap for 2026-27.
He is one of nine pending unrestricted free agents on the Dallas roster, according to TSN. Jason Robertson and captain Jamie Benn are on the same list, and both signed one-year deals this summer.
Seguin turns 35 in January. He has 367 goals, 459 assists, and 826 points in 1,016 regular-season games, and 29 goals, 50 assists, and 79 points in 151 playoff games.
Dallas Stars Schedule Ahead Of The Oct. 2 Opener
Dallas opens training camp Sept. 17 at Comerica Center in Frisco. The preseason opener is Sept. 19 at St. Louis with a 6 p.m. CT puck drop.
The Stars host St. Louis on Oct. 2 at American Airlines Center, with an 8 p.m. CT puck drop on TNT.
Dallas went 50-20-12 for 112 points last season and finished second in the Central Division. The Minnesota Wild eliminated the Stars in six games in the first round, and Seguin was ruled out of that series in February.
