COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Texas A&M dropped two spots to No. 10 in the AP Top 25 released Tuesday, three days after a 50-0 shutout of Missouri State at Kyle Field.
The Associated Press had the Aggies at No. 8 in its preseason poll and put them on the cooling-down list this week. The US LBM Coaches Poll, released the same day, moved Texas A&M from No. 8 to No. 9.
Saturday night was the largest season-opening crowd in school history. More than 107,000 watched the Aggies hold Missouri State without a first down for long stretches and without a point for the full 60 minutes.
Marcel Reed Throws 2 Touchdown Passes In The Texas A&M Opener
Marcel Reed completed 21-of-30 passes for 233 yards with 2 touchdowns and no interceptions. His second completion of the night went 15 yards to Isaiah Horton and capped an opening drive of eight plays and 58 yards. Late in the first half, Reed found Mario Craver from 12 yards out for a 19-0 lead.
Reed graded his own night as a good first game.
“I think for the first game, I played well,” Reed said. “The team did pretty well. It was a slow start after the first touchdown.”
Texas A&M’s first-team defense gave up 55 yards on 29 plays. Noah Mikhail led the team with seven tackles. Ray Coney added six tackles and half a tackle for loss, and Ryan Henderson forced the only turnover.
The Aggies also scored a safety on special teams late in the first quarter, when Missouri State muffed a punt that squirted through the end zone. It was the first Texas A&M safety since 2017.
Texas A&M coach Mike Elko said the message at halftime was to stop making mistakes rather than anything about effort.
“Everybody wants these things to go perfect and they won’t,” Elko said.
Rueben Owens II ran for 77 yards. Three Aggies running backs cleared 40 yards on the ground. True freshmen Carsyn Baker and Aaron Gregory scored the first touchdowns of their college careers.
Through 13 starts in 2025, Reed completed 234-of-377 passes for 3,169 yards with 25 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He added 493 rushing yards and 6 scores on 104 carries. Saturday was Elko’s 20th win at Texas A&M.
