FRISCO, Texas — Dallas Cowboys running back Javonte Williams said Thursday that the Cowboys have to start faster and keep games within reach, after falling behind in back-to-back losses left Dallas throwing to get back into them.

Williams ran 11 times for 41 yards and a touchdown and caught 2 passes for 9 yards in the 23-13 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Oct. 18. Dallas trailed 17-0 at halftime, and Dak Prescott threw 54 passes while the Cowboys ran 15 times for 48 yards.

Through six games, Williams has 85 carries for 317 yards and 7 touchdowns, along with 19 catches for 103 yards and a touchdown. He has not reached 100 rushing yards in a game this season.

“No, not really. I mean, we just, we’ve been down a lot, so we’re trying to get back into it with passes,” Williams said. “We got to start faster and just keep the game in reach.”

Williams ran for a career-high 1,201 yards in 16 games in 2025, averaging 4.8 yards per carry, and Dallas re-signed him to a three-year, $24 million contract in February. He is averaging 3.7 yards per carry this season.

“It was kind of surprising, but I mean, I know how good of a team we are, how good of a running team we are,” Williams explained. “We’re going to get back on track. We just got to communicate and just be more balanced and everything will shake out.”

Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said Thursday that Dallas called five or six more runs at Green Bay than it ran. Execution is the same job for Williams whether the call is a run or a pass.

“Really, I just run whatever play the team called,” Williams said. “We just got to go out and execute no matter if it’s a run or a pass.”

Javonte Williams On Blitz Pickup After Dak Prescott’s 54 Attempts

Green Bay was credited with 7 quarterback hits on Prescott. Linebacker Zaire Franklin came free on a blitz and hit Prescott on the play before safety Evan Williams intercepted him at the Green Bay 3.

“Green Bay was blitzing a lot, so picking up those blitzes was, I mean, I was kind of sore, but, I mean, that’s my job,” Williams said. “Whatever they want me to do, that’s what I got to do.”

Vic Fangio is in his third season as the Philadelphia Eagles’ defensive coordinator. Against the blitz, Williams starts with the IDs the running backs, the offensive line, and the quarterback share before the snap.

“I think the biggest thing is just communication,” Williams said. “Just making sure that us and the O-line, the quarterback, are all on the same page with our IDs and things like that. And then just executing when we get those looks that we had in practice with the guys that we have on offense.”

Williams On The NFC East And Monday Night In Philadelphia

The New York Giants lead the NFC East at 3-2-1. Dallas and Philadelphia are both 2-4, and the Washington Commanders are 1-3-1.

“It’s really important. I mean, just for us to get back on track, to get back, start back winning,” Williams said. “We know how good of a team we are.”

Philadelphia allowed Carolina’s Chuba Hubbard 120 rushing yards on 28 carries in Sunday’s 25-14 loss, the Eagles’ fourth straight defeat. Williams is treating the Eagles like any other NFL opponent.

“Just play our game. It’s just another NFL team,” Williams said. “We know everybody’s good in the league, so just going out and playing our game. Don’t get behind too early. Start fast and feel like we’ll be all right.”

Dallas has lost to the Giants, the Baltimore Ravens, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Green Bay this season. Its wins came against Washington and Houston.

“Just keeping it balanced. Really just any success that we can get on offense and defense,” Williams said. “I just want to see us play a complete game as a team.”

The Cowboys have scored 29 points in their last two games. Williams said the frustration comes from how hard the offense works during the week.

“It’s very frustrating knowing the guys that we got and how hard we worked throughout the week. We know what we’re capable of,” Williams said. “We just got to go out. Like I said, we just got to go out and show the world.”

Dallas plays at Lincoln Financial Field on Monday. Kickoff is set for 7:15 p.m. CT on ESPN and ABC.
