FRISCO, Texas – Sebastian Walcott homered for the third consecutive game Tuesday night at Riders Field, the first time the Texas Rangers prospect has put together that stretch in his Double-A career. The Frisco RoughRiders fell 9-5 to the Amarillo Sod Poodles in the opener of a six-game series.
Down 9-3 with Frisco batting in the ninth, Walcott drove an 0-1 breaking ball into left-center field for a solo home run. Rafe Perich followed with an RBI single that scored Dylan Dreiling and pulled the RoughRiders within 9-5 before the final out.
Walcott singled in the third inning and scored on Dreiling’s two-run homer to deep center field in the next at-bat. He finished 2-for-4 with a walk. The home run was his seventh in 30 games this season across two levels, and six of those have come in 28 games with Frisco.
Over his past seven games, Walcott has hit safely each time and posted multiple hits in four of them. He has added 3 doubles and 5 RBI over the span.
The season line sits at .319/.404/.605 with a 1.009 OPS in 30 games at two levels. At Frisco alone, Walcott is hitting .310/.395/.575 in 28 games. He slashed .255/.355/.386 with 13 home runs, 59 RBI, and 32 stolen bases in 124 games for the RoughRiders in 2025.
MLB Pipeline ranks Walcott No. 9 on its Top 100 Prospects list. He has held the top spot in the Rangers system for two seasons.
Sebastian Walcott’s Return From Internal Brace Surgery
Arm fatigue shut Walcott down in the 2025 Arizona Fall League. Rangers team physician Dr. Keith Meister performed an internal brace procedure on his right elbow in Arlington in February, sparing him a full Tommy John reconstruction. Frisco placed him on the 60-day injured list on March 18.
After two rehab games with the rookie-level ACL Rangers, Walcott was activated by Frisco on July 17. He was struck in the head by an errant pickoff throw at first base on Aug. 1 against the Corpus Christi Hooks and landed on the 7-day concussion injured list the following day. Frisco reinstated him on Aug. 12.
Walcott has served only as a designated hitter since returning while his throwing elbow builds back up. The Dallas Morning News reported two weeks ago that the Rangers are growing more optimistic he will play the field before the end of the season, with Frisco, Triple-A Round Rock, and the majors all in play.
Texas fell to 69-71 on Wednesday and sits second in the American League West behind the Houston Astros.
Frisco RoughRiders’ Playoff Position And Final Homestand
Dreiling hit his 22nd home run of the season in the third inning and finished with 3 hits. His hitting streak reached 22 games, the longest active streak in Minor League Baseball.
Tuesday’s loss dropped Frisco to 28-30 in the second half and 67-59 overall. Amarillo improved to 34-24 and 70-56.
The RoughRiders clinched the Texas League South first-half title on June 18, securing a playoff spot. Frisco last reached the postseason in 2024 and last won a Texas League championship in 2022.
Amarillo entered the series leading the Texas League South second-half standings by five games over Midland and Frisco, according to the RoughRiders’ Riders Report blog. The season series was tied 6-6 before Tuesday. If the Sod Poodles hold the second-half lead, the two clubs will meet in the first round of the playoffs.
First pitch for game two is set for 7:05 p.m. CT Wednesday at Riders Field. Neither team had announced a probable starter.
