Roope Hintz Exits With Right Hand Injury Late In Dallas Stars’ 4-0 Win Over Chicago Blackhawks

CHICAGO — Roope Hintz was examined after the Dallas Stars’ 4-0 win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday night, having taken a puck to the right hand or wrist area late in the third period, Bruce Miles of NHL.com reported. Stars coach Glen Gulutzan did not have an immediate update on Hintz’s condition after the game.
Hintz had scored at 9:40 of the third period, burying a wrist shot under the crossbar from the left faceoff dot to make it 4-0 at United Center. The Associated Press reported that he left late in the period with a right hand injury.
The goal was Hintz’s third of the season. Through eight games, he has 3 goals, 2 assists, and 5 points. He is averaging 16:57 of ice time and has won 54.6% of his faceoffs.
Roope Hintz’s Week Began With A Fight Against Nathan MacKinnon
Saturday’s injury came four days after Hintz fought for the first time in his NHL career. Against the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday at American Airlines Center, Nathan MacKinnon cross-checked Hintz in the Colorado zone during the second period, and the two dropped the gloves. Each received a five-minute fighting major at 6:46 of the second.
Hintz iced his knuckles after the fight and did not speak with reporters after the 3-2 loss. He finished that game and scored in the third period. The next night in Denver, Hintz converted his attempt in the shootout of Dallas’ 3-2 win.
The fight came seven months after a March 6 collision with MacKinnon. Hintz tore his hamstring and missed the final 20 games of last season, along with the 2026 playoffs, where Dallas lost to the Minnesota Wild in the first round. Dallas Sports Journal covered Tuesday’s fight and that history after the game.
Matt Duchene, Oskar Bäck Already Out For Dallas Stars
Dallas was already without Matt Duchene, who is expected to miss about three months after surgery to repair a core injury. The Stars placed Oskar Bäck on injured reserve Friday with a finger injury. Wyatt Johnston returned Saturday after missing two games with an illness and played 20:25.
Forward David Perron signed a one-year, $850,000 contract Friday and joins the team Monday. His 1,239 NHL games are second on the roster behind captain Jamie Benn, who has 1,259.
Depth forwards Colin Blackwell, Joel Kiviranta, and Arttu Hyry gave Dallas energy in Wednesday’s win at Colorado, Gulutzan said afterward.
“They just gave us so much energy,” Gulutzan said of the win in Colorado. “I thought against Colorado, those forwards were really good. Blacky had some really effective minutes, Kivi made some good little plays and I thought Artty was a horse. We need those guys when you’ve got injuries like we do.”
Hyry scored twice in Chicago, giving him three goals in two games. Dallas opens a six-game homestand Tuesday against the Boston Bruins at American Airlines Center, with puck drop at 7 p.m. CT.
