SEATTLE — Adam Macko worked the eighth and ninth innings Tuesday night and allowed 4 hits and 2 runs, 1 of them earned, in the Texas Rangers‘ 10-5 win over the Seattle Mariners at T-Mobile Park. He struck out 3 and threw 40 pitches.
Texas used 2 relievers in the game and neither was a late-inning arm.
Cal Quantrill does not get hurt by walking anybody, Rangers manager Skip Schumaker said.
“And he’s really good at game planning,” Schumaker said. “It feels like he goes six innings every time for us. And tonight we had to use a couple guys out of the pen, but our offense provided a lot of cushion, which we really needed, so we can have another day kind of reset from our leverage guys, which is hopefully a big, big deal going into tomorrow.”
Quantrill went 6 innings on 93 pitches. Robert Garcia worked the seventh and did not allow a hit. It was his first major league appearance since April. Texas reinstated him from the 60-day injured list on Monday and optioned right-hander Ben Peoples to Triple-A Round Rock.
Adam Macko Finishes Against the Organization That Drafted Him
Seattle took Macko in the seventh round of the 2019 draft out of Vauxhall High School in Alberta. The Mariners traded him to Toronto on Nov. 16, 2022, in the deal that sent Teoscar Hernández to Seattle, and Texas acquired him from the Blue Jays on Aug. 3 for infielder Josh Smith and minor league right-hander Josh Stephan.
Macko was born in Bratislava and is the first Slovak-born player to appear in a major league game. He debuted with Toronto on May 18 against the New York Yankees and pitched for Canada at the 2026 World Baseball Classic, where Quantrill was a teammate.
Seattle scored once off him in each inning. Lazaro Montes struck out against him in the ninth after hitting a 474-foot three-run homer off Quantrill in the fourth.

Jacob Latz has 28 saves and a 1.85 ERA over 63 1/3 innings. Jakob Junis has a 2.74 ERA and 6 saves, and Tyler Alexander has a 3.30 ERA and 4 saves. None of the three pitched Tuesday. Neither did Chase Silseth, Trevor Williams, or Jordan Montgomery.
Cody Bradford had 30 1/3 innings across six starts this season before taking the ball Wednesday afternoon. Jacob deGrom starts Thursday’s finale at 3:10 p.m. CT on Rangers Sports Network.
Texas is 72-73, two games behind the Houston Astros in the American League West and 1 1/2 games behind the Cleveland Guardians for the third American League wild card. The Rangers open a three-game series at the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday.
