FRISCO, Texas —Petar Musa sits second in the MLS Golden Boot presented by Audi race with 16 goals, two behind Lionel Messi, as FC Dallas opens a homestand Saturday against Sporting Kansas City.
Musa did not score in Sunday night’s 3-3 draw at St. Louis CITY SC. He registered his third assist of the season at Energizer Park, setting up Logan Farrington for the equalizer in the seventh minute of second-half stoppage time.
Messi scored four times in a 7-1 win over CF Montréal on Saturday to reach 18. Musa had held the lead since a 2-1 win at Austin FC in mid-August, when his 73rd-minute goal was his 14th of the season.
Musa spoke with reporters after that match in Austin.
“I am having a lot of things go my way, but I am focusing on each game,” Musa said. “I’m happy with the goal, but not my performance. There are a lot of things to improve on, but we take three more road points.”
Petar Musa’s Goal Totals Since 2024
On Aug. 19, Musa scored his 15th and 16th goals in a 4-3 win at Real Salt Lake. MLSsoccer.com reported that the 15th made him the fifth player in league history to score at least 15 goals in each of his first three MLS seasons, a list that includes Josef Martínez and David Villa.
Musa scored 16 league goals in 2024 and 18 in 2025. He led Dallas in goals, shots, and shots on target in 2024. He is the only player in club history with two regular-season hat tricks, and he recorded the first hat trick of the 2026 season in a 3-3 draw with San Diego FC in March.
Dallas acquired Musa from Benfica on Feb. 1, 2024 for a club-record fee reported at $9.7 million, with add-ons that could raise it to $13 million. He signed a four-year Designated Player contract with a club option for 2028. Capology lists his current salary at $2.45 million annually through December 2027.

Nicolás Fernández Mercau of New York City FC is third in the race with 14 goals. Evander, Prince Owusu, Brian White, and Sam Surridge are tied on 13.
Dallas has 12 matches remaining, and eight of them are at Toyota Stadium. Kickoff against Sporting Kansas City is set for 7:30 p.m. CT on Apple TV.
