FRISCO, Texas — Petar Musa converted a penalty kick seven minutes into second-half stoppage time Saturday night, and FC Dallas beat Sporting Kansas City 4-3 at Toyota Stadium in the club’s first home match since May 13.
One minute into second-half stoppage time, Moises Mosquera caught Musa at the edge of the penalty area. Referee Lorenzo Hernandez signaled a free kick, and a lengthy video review moved the spot inside the box. Musa scored it for his second goal of the night and his 18th of the league season.
Dallas moved to 10-6-7 and 37 points through 23 matches, fourth in the Western Conference. Kansas City dropped to 4-16-3 and 15 points, last in the West.
Inside four minutes, the visitors led. Capita Capemba drove at goal from the left and forced a save from Jonathan Sirois, and Taylor Calheira turned in the rebound for his first career MLS goal. In the 20th minute, Stephen Afrifa closed down Dallas captain Ramiro Benetti near the edge of the area and deflected his attempted pass into an empty net. The goal was Afrifa’s third of the season and his ninth for Sporting.
Dallas answered with its first shot of the match. Logan Farrington finished in the 27th minute after Musa set him up. Three minutes later Musa headed in a Bernard Kamungo cross, with Joaquín Valiente credited for the second assist. Kaick struck from the edge of the area in first-half stoppage time to put Dallas ahead 3-2 at the break.
Emir Karic crossed for Calheira’s second goal in the 78th minute, and Kwaku Agyabeng was credited with the second assist. Karic and Agyabeng each recorded a first assist for Sporting. Calheira has scored twice in 15 career MLS appearances.
Kansas City finished with 26 shots to 14 for Dallas, 9 shots on target to 10, and 55.4% possession. Mosquera was booked in the 88th minute and Karic in second-half stoppage time.
Eric Quill And Logan Farrington On The Toyota Stadium Return
Before Saturday, the last home match had come on May 13 against the Vancouver Whitecaps. Dallas went 6-3-3 over the 12 matches that followed, across all competitions. The club logged more than 15,000 miles in three countries during that stretch. Saturday was also the first crowd inside the renovated east side of Toyota Stadium, a project the club has valued at more than $200 million. Frisco was at 93 degrees at kickoff, and the club announced a crowd of 10,925.
Big D Soccer reported Farrington’s postgame comments. In front of its own supporters, coming off three months away, Dallas picked the worst start available to it.
“I thought the first 10 to 15 minutes were horrible for us,” Farrington said. “It was probably the worst start we could have had coming back, especially in front of our fans.”
FC Dallas coach Eric Quill said his team spotted Kansas City two goals inside the first 10 minutes and that the deficit was tough to swallow on a homecoming night.
“We needed our fans tonight,” Quill said. “I’m going to say thank you to our fans because that’s how you come back home. This is what home crowds do for you. They give you that life after you score a goal, and they brought us back.”
Sporting Kansas City coach Raphael Wicky said a ruling on whether the contact happened inside the box takes five or six minutes to work out, in comments reported by KC Soccer Journal.
“It’s difficult right after the game,” Wicky said. “We were all very emotional, of course. You have to take five or six minutes to define if it’s actually a foul inside the box.”

Musa scored 16 league goals in 2024 and 18 in 2025. He took the Golden Boot lead on Aug. 15 with his 14th goal of the season in a 2-1 win at Austin FC, and Messi passed him on Aug. 29.
Farrington has 8 goals and 5 assists this season. Valiente has 1 goal and 10 assists. Kaick has 2 goals.
