AUSTIN, Texas — Most of the Milwaukee Bucks roster gathered in Austin, Texas, late last month for an offseason workout organized in part by center Myles Turner, who grew up in the Dallas-Fort Worth suburb of Bedford.
Eighteen of the 19 players under contract made the trip, based on clips posted to social media. The players worked out at St. Edward’s University. Forward Kyle Kuzma posted images from the gathering Aug. 30.
The session was not run by the team. Under the league calendar, veterans cannot report to their clubs until Sept. 28, and NBA training camps do not open until Sept. 29.
Guard Tyler Herro, forward Jaime Jaquez Jr., guard Gary Trent Jr., guard Ryan Rollins, center Kel’el Ware, and rookies Brayden Burries and Nate Ament were among those pictured.
Myles Turner’s Path From Euless Trinity to Milwaukee
Turner, 30, played at Euless Trinity and spent one season at Texas. Indiana Pacers drafted him eleventh overall in 2015. He spent ten seasons in Indiana and led the NBA in blocks in 2018-19 and 2020-21.
Turner played 71 games in his first season in Milwaukee, averaging 11.9 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in 26.9 minutes. He blocked 1.6 shots a game, shot 44.0% from the field, a career low, and shot 38.3% from 3-point range. He signed a four-year, $108.86 million contract July 6, 2025, and will earn $26.58 million this season. The deal includes a player option for 2028-29 and a 15% trade bonus.
Milwaukee’s Roster After the Giannis Antetokounmpo Trade
The Bucks agreed on the eve of the June draft to trade two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo and forward Bobby Portis to the Miami Heat for Herro, Jaquez, Ware, guard Kasparas Jakučionis, the thirteenth overall pick, a 2030 first-round pick swap, first-round picks in 2031 and 2033, and a 2033 second-round pick. Antetokounmpo left as the franchise leader in points and rebounds.
Bucks coach Taylor Jenkins will run his first training camp with the team this month.
Burries was selected tenth overall in June from Arizona, where he averaged 16.1 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 2.4 assists. Ament joined Milwaukee as part of the Antetokounmpo trade. Although Miami announced his name as the thirteenth pick on draft night, the pick was already owned by the Bucks. Last season, he started all 35 games at Tennessee, averaging 16.7 points and 6.3 rebounds.
The NBA preseason starts on Oct. 3. Milwaukee’s regular season kicks off at Washington on Oct. 21, and they host Chicago at Fiserv Forum on Oct. 23.
