DALLAS — Michael Irvin picked the Dallas Cowboys to beat the New York Giants in the Sept. 13 season opener at MetLife Stadium and picked the Giants to win the Week 17 rematch at AT&T Stadium on Jan. 3. Irvin made both picks on The Rich Eisen Show, in an appearance.
Irvin has Dallas at 13-4, with losses at Houston on Oct. 4, at Philadelphia on Oct. 26, at Seattle on Dec. 7, and at home to New York on Jan. 3. The Cowboys have won 16 of the last 18 meetings with the Giants.
Irvin picked Dallas to lose four games this season, three of them on the road.
“13-4, y’all. I didn’t just throw wins. I gave you how this thing will play out,” Irvin said. “That’ll be a take, but I do believe that.”
Irvin has the Giants losing in September and winning in January. The difference between the two games, for him, is Giants coach John Harbaugh.
“By the end of the year, listen to me, people,” Irvin said. “By the end of the year, that New York team will be vastly different than the one we play in the beginning of the year. By then, by the end of the year, that Harbaugh stuff will be done taking root, and they’ve got the talent and they’ve got the mentality in New York. So by the end of the year, that’s a whole different team.”
Harbaugh Enters His First Season With The Giants
New York hired Harbaugh on Jan. 17 on a five-year deal, 11 days after Baltimore fired him following 18 seasons and a Super Bowl XLVII title. The Giants had fired Brian Daboll on Nov. 10 after a 2-8 start, gone 2-5 under interim coach Mike Kafka, and finished 4-13. Sept. 13 is Harbaugh’s first regular-season game with the franchise.
Earlier this week, on the Bleav in Cowboys podcast, Irvin put the 2026 Cowboys’ ceiling at the Super Bowl and credited George Pickens for the change he sees in the roster. Dallas went 7-9-1 last season under first-year coach Brian Schottenheimer and missed the playoffs for the second year in a row.
Giants Ended Dallas’ Nine-Game Streak In January
The last meeting between the two teams went to New York, 34-17, on Jan. 4 at MetLife Stadium in the season finale. Both teams had been eliminated from playoff contention, the Giants for two months. Dak Prescott left after halftime and finished 7-of-11 for 70 yards, 0 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions. Jaxson Dart went 22-of-32 for 231 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions in his 12th NFL start. The result ended a nine-game Dallas winning streak in the series and a 17-game Prescott winning streak as the starter against the Giants. Dallas had not lost to New York since the 2020 finale on Jan. 3, 2021.
Oddsmakers opened Dallas as a 2.5-point favorite for the Sept. 13 game, according to Giants Wire, with the total at 48.5 and the moneyline at Dallas -151 and Giants +126.
Kickoff at MetLife Stadium is set for 7:20 p.m. CT on NBC. The rematch at AT&T Stadium is set for noon CT on Jan. 3.
