‘Let’s Pull The Reverse’: Stephen Jones Reveals Dallas Cowboys’ Super Bowl Pitch To Von Miller

OXNARD, Calif. — Despite some previous chatter that raised doubts about the chances of veteran linebacker Von Miller landing with the Dallas Cowboys, the two sides are linking up after all on a one-year deal.

In a conversation on Monday with The Dallas Morning News, Cowboys executive and co-owner Stephen Jones shared something he told Miller on Sunday. While speaking to Miller, Jones brought up Hall of Famer DeMarcus Ware, who won a Super Bowl with the Denver Broncos after leaving the Cowboys in a salary dump years ago.

“When I talked to him, I go, ‘Let’s pull the reverse,’’’ Jones said of his conversation with Miller. “D-Ware left here back in the day and he went and played with Von in Denver and they won one. So I said, ‘Let’s turn the tables and have you come to Dallas and play with this crew we’ve put together and let’s win one here.’ Of course, he loved the idea — who doesn’t — he was fired up about it.”

Miller’s desire to play for the Cowboys, his hometown team, was no secret. Now, it’s coming to fruition as he enters his 15th season in the NFL.

Von Miller Brings A Championship Résumé To Dallas

The 37-year-old has checked countless boxes during his NFL career, which has featured eight Pro Bowl selections, seven All-Pro nods, two Super Bowl rings and one Super Bowl MVP award.

While he’s no longer the player he was in his prime years with the Broncos, who moved on from him in 2021, he remains a productive player who recorded nine sacks last season.

Miller won his first ring with Denver in 2015, and his second with the Los Angeles Rams in 2021. It would certainly be poetic if he added another one to his collection with the Cowboys in the late stages of his career, but if that’s going to happen this season, the team is going to have to exceed expectations.

Are The Cowboys Finished Adding?

It’s unclear whether the Cowboys have any more tricks up their sleeve to add more to their group before the 2026 season begins. Their pursuit of roster help was described as “very real” in a report that surfaced before the Miller news.

The big name that many fans have circled is Las Vegas Raiders star Maxx Crosby, but getting him isn’t going to be easy.
