DALLAS — There has been a lot of chatter about the Dallas Cowboys being in the market for roster help — particularly on the defensive side of the ball — as the 2026 season approaches.
While some options, including free agents Von Miller and Bobby Wagner, don’t appear to be what the Cowboys are looking for, a recent report from team insider Mike Fisher detailed that Dallas’ pursuit of help is “very real.”
“Two sources inside the team tell me that while they have deep respect for what Miller, now 37, has accomplished in his NFL career, he’s not a front-burner issue in terms of their pursuit of help … which I’m told is otherwise very real,” wrote Fisher.
Maxx Crosby Remains The Biggest Name To Watch
Las Vegas Raiders star Maxx Crosby is probably the biggest name to monitor for the Cowboys right now. While Dallas would certainly have to pay a major price to acquire him, it’s hard to ignore the fact that there’s been smoke connecting the two sides.
The 28-year-old, who is about to be 29, appeared headed to the Baltimore Ravens earlier this offseason before medical concerns doomed the trade. That is something that the Cowboys will also have to be mindful of if they are thinking of getting into the Crosby business.
In seven years at the NFL level, the edge rusher has earned five Pro Bowl nods, led the league in tackles for loss twice and had four seasons with 10+ sacks.
Other Defensive Options For The Dallas Cowboys
But Crosby certainly isn’t the only option for the Cowboys, who may need to cast a wide net if they want to maximize their chances of making an impact splash. There has been some talk about Miami Dolphins linebacker Jordyn Brooks as a potential name to watch for Dallas, though it doesn’t appear that he is likely to be moved. It’s unclear what other tricks the Cowboys may have up their sleeve.
Dallas is seen by many as a fringe playoff contender going into the new season. The Cowboys have missed the playoffs in each of the last two seasons and haven’t had a winning record since the 2023 campaign.
