DALLAS — Amid the Dallas Cowboys‘ apparent search for help on the defensive side of the ball, there has been chatter about Miami Dolphins linebacker Jordyn Brooks as a potential name to watch.
However, based on a report from Cowboys insider Mike Fisher, it doesn’t seem like the Dolphins are looking to move the 28-year-old.
“Two NFL sources tell me that Miami signed Brooks because he is viewed as a foundational player for the rebuilding Dolphins and that swapping him is not part of some clever master plan, as has been speculated,” wrote Fisher.
Jordyn Brooks Signed An Extension Last Month
The Dolphins inked Brooks to a three-year extension last month, putting him in line to be a key part of their future barring a divorce.
The former first-round pick has been fantastic in his two seasons with the Dolphins since he came over from the Seattle Seahawks. Last season, he led the league in solo tackles, combined tackles, and earned first-team All-Pro honors.
Bryan Broaddus Put Jordyn Brooks On The Radar
Fellow Cowboys insider Bryan Broaddus, who ignited a lot of the initial Brooks-Cowboys chatter, said recently that he was hearing that Brooks could be worth a third- or fourth-round pick.
The Dolphins may feel like Brooks can provide more value as a contributor to their rebuild than as a trade chip. Miami is going to have a brand new look this season after moving on from countless foundational pieces, and the results are likely going to be bleak in the win column for some time. But if Brooks can give them several seasons of top-notch production, he could prove to be a huge part of a successful rebuild.
Where The Dallas Cowboys Go Next
The Cowboys, meanwhile, will have to keep exploring other options if a trade for Brooks is unlikely. There has been smoke connecting Dallas to some big names, including Las Vegas Raiders star Maxx Crosby, and there’s no doubt that a splash would go a long way toward improving the Cowboys’ trajectory this coming season.
Dallas has just over a month before its 2026 season officially begins.
