DALLAS — Von Miller is expected to sign with the Dallas Cowboys, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Sunday night. The report did not include the deal terms.
Miller turned 37 in March and spent the 2025 season with the Washington Commanders, where he appeared in all 17 games and started three of them. He finished the year with 9.0 sacks, 26 combined tackles, and six tackles for loss. Washington played him on 420 defensive snaps, or 37% of the team’s total.
He has 138.5 sacks in 203 career games. He also has 607 combined tackles, 27 forced fumbles, and 271 quarterback hits.
Denver took him with the second overall pick of the 2011 NFL Draft. He spent 10 seasons there and recorded 110.5 sacks. He won AP Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2011.
Miller has been to eight Pro Bowls and has been named first-team All-Pro three times. He won Super Bowl 50 with the Denver Broncos and was named the game’s MVP, closing a three-game postseason run in which he had 5.0 sacks and two forced fumbles. Six years later, he won a second ring with the Los Angeles Rams.
Von Miller’s Path Back To North Texas
Miller was born in DeSoto and played his high school football there before spending three seasons at Texas A&M. An ankle injury cost him the entire 2020 season. Denver traded him to the Rams in 2021, and he signed with Buffalo the following March. Over three years with the Buffalo Bills, he had 14.0 sacks in 36 games, 11 of which he started. Washington signed him last offseason on a one-year contract.
In an interview with RJ Ochoa of Blogging The Boys in July, Miller was asked about the possibility of playing in Dallas.
“I grew up here in Dallas. I’ve always had a special place in my heart for the Dallas Cowboys,” Miller said.
Miller posted an edited photo of himself in a Cowboys uniform on Instagram later that week. Earlier this month, he attended a Cowboys training camp practice in Oxnard, California.
Where Von Miller Fits In The Dallas Cowboys Pass Rush
Rashan Gary leads the Cowboys’ edge group after arriving from Green Bay this offseason. Gary has 46.5 sacks and 271 tackles over seven NFL seasons, and he was voted to the Pro Bowl in 2024.
Donovan Ezeiruaku enters his second season after Dallas took him 44th overall in 2025. He had 2.0 sacks and 40 tackles as a rookie. Malachi Lawrence, the 23rd overall pick in April, finished his UCF career with 20 sacks, including seven in 2025. Lawrence was a first-team All-Big 12 selection that season.
Cowboys defensive coordinator Christian Parker is in his first year in Dallas. Parker coached defensive backs in Denver in 2021, which was Miller’s last season with the Broncos.
Dallas is coming off its second consecutive seven-win season under coach Brian Schottenheimer, who is in his second year. The Cowboys beat the Seattle Seahawks 17-7 at Lumen Field on Saturday in the preseason opener.
Camp in Oxnard wraps up this week. The Cowboys play the Arizona Cardinals on Saturday in Glendale, Arizona, and return to North Texas after that game. They host the New Orleans Saints on Friday, Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. CT.
