DALLAS — Former Dallas Cowboys scout Bryan Broaddus said the Cowboys should take trade calls on quarterback Joe Milton III before final cuts. Broaddus said a second-round pick would be enough to move him.
Broaddus made the argument on Trust the Tape, the YouTube show he co-hosts with Jeff Cavanaugh. Dallas acquired Milton in April 2025, sending a 2025 fifth-round pick, No. 171 overall, to the New England Patriots in exchange for Milton and a 2025 seventh-round pick, No. 217 overall. New England had taken Milton in the sixth round of the 2024 draft out of Tennessee, and he began his college career at Michigan.
Broaddus sees three more good years ahead for Dak Prescott.
“Listen, folks, I’m just trying to talk about things that nobody else is going to talk about, but be honest with yourself,” Broaddus said. “Joe Milton’s value right now might be the highest it ever is going to be.”
Milton made one start in New England, in Week 18 of the 2024 season. He completed 22 of 29 passes for 241 yards and 1 touchdown, ran 10 times for 16 yards and another score, and the Patriots beat the Buffalo Bills 23-16. Dallas traded for him three months later, after Cooper Rush signed with the Baltimore Ravens and left Will Grier as the only quarterback on the roster behind Prescott.
Joe Milton III Has Started Both Preseason Games
Milton went 9 of 13 for 179 yards and 2 touchdowns Saturday against the Arizona Cardinals. He threw an 8-yard scoring pass to Malik Davis, hit Jonathan Mingo for a 53-yard touchdown down the left sideline, and ran in a 1-yard score of his own. Dallas won 34-13 and is 2-0 this preseason.
Sam Howell signed a one-year deal with Dallas on March 10 after a season with the Philadelphia Eagles. Howell has thrown for 4,139 yards with 22 touchdowns and 23 interceptions in 20 career games. Prescott threw for 4,552 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions in 17 starts last season. That was the third-highest single-season passing total in franchise history.
Bryan Broaddus Set A Price
Broaddus said Milton went into training camp with one foot in the parking lot.
“You gave up a four for him. No, actually a fifth. You gave up a fifth for him,” Broaddus explained. “Take a four, take a three, take a two. Anything better? I mean, come on.”
“We all kind of feel like now, if you’re one of these people that are very Dak-phobic, where you’re like, oh, this is the year Dak’s going to get hurt, as in the line of the great Tom Moore,” Broaddus continued. “We don’t work on F’d when Peyton Manning gets hurt. We don’t work on F’d. We don’t. We’ve all seen it. When Dak goes down, what happens?”
Tom Moore was the Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator from 1998 through 2009. Peyton Manning did not miss a start in any of those 12 seasons. Prescott has missed games in four of the past five seasons, and a torn hamstring against the Atlanta Falcons in 2024 ended his season in Week 9.
Ken Dorsey has worked with the Cowboys quarterbacks as a passing game specialist since February 2025. Dorsey was Buffalo’s offensive coordinator in 2022 and 2023 and Cleveland’s in 2024, and he was the Bills quarterbacks coach for Josh Allen beginning in 2019.
Dallas closes the preseason at home against the New Orleans Saints on Friday. Teams must reach 53 players by Sunday at 5 p.m. CT.
