SEATTLE — Jacob deGrom will start Thursday afternoon against the Seattle Mariners at T-Mobile Park. The Texas Rangers listed him third among their three probable pitchers for the series, behind Cal Quantrill on Tuesday night and Cody Bradford on Wednesday.
Thursday’s game begins at 3:10 p.m. CT on Rangers Sports Network, and so does Wednesday’s. Tuesday’s opener starts at 8:40 p.m. CT.
Jacob deGrom’s Last Three Starts
deGrom is 10-9 with a 3.96 ERA in 27 starts. He has thrown 143 1/3 innings and allowed 122 hits and 63 earned runs with 38 walks and 174 strikeouts. Opponents are batting .225 against him, and his WHIP is 1.116.
On Sept. 5 against the Tampa Bay Rays, deGrom worked six innings and gave up 4 hits and 2 runs with 1 walk and 7 strikeouts on 90 pitches. Texas lost 6-3 in 10 innings.
Five days earlier, he held the Athletics to 1 hit over seven scoreless innings with 8 strikeouts and no walks in an 8-1 win at Globe Life Field. Against the Washington Nationals on Aug. 20, deGrom gave up 1 hit over six scoreless innings and struck out 10 in a 2-0 win.
On Aug. 25 at the Chicago White Sox, deGrom recorded 11 outs and allowed 8 earned runs on 6 hits and 5 walks in an 11-7 loss.
Through 13 seasons, deGrom has 2,025 strikeouts. His career record is 106-74. His five-year, $185 million contract runs through 2027 and carries a mutual option for 2028.
Last season deGrom went 12-8 with a 2.97 ERA over 30 starts and 172 2/3 innings, striking out 185 and walking 37. He was an American League All-Star.
Cal Quantrill And Cody Bradford Open The Seattle Series
Quantrill opens the series at 7-5 with a 2.79 ERA. He has made 29 appearances, 12 of them starts. Since July 28 at Tampa Bay, his ERA is 1.25 over eight outings. He threw seven shutout innings against the Rays on Sept. 3 in a 6-0 win.
Bradford is 0-4 with a 4.45 ERA in six starts since Texas reinstated him from the 60-day injured list on Aug. 5. Over 30 1/3 innings he has allowed 41 hits and 15 earned runs with 7 walks and 16 strikeouts. He gave up 3 home runs in four innings against the Athletics on Sept. 2 at Globe Life Field, matching a career high, and Texas lost 9-2.
“I think fastball command and changeup command were kind of hit and miss today at times,” Bradford said. “I think the inconsistency, falling behind in counts, putting them in hitters’ counts … they made some good damage swings.”
Nathan Eovaldi went back on the 15-day injured list this month with right posterior elbow inflammation. Jack Leiter remains on the 60-day injured list with a right ankle posterior impingement.
Texas opened the trip at 71-73 with 18 games left, two games behind the Houston Astros in the American League West. The Rangers are 31-41 away from Globe Life Field and 6-17 against AL West opponents on the road.
Texas has won the season series against Seattle 7-3, and six of those wins came at home. The Rangers open a three-game series at the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday.
