DALLAS — A shelter dog named Chanel spent a day at Cowboys training camp. The Dallas Cowboys posted the video Wednesday on the team’s X account, along with a link to her adoption listing on the platform Adopets.
Wednesday was National Dog Day. The team tagged The Farmer’s Dog in the post. The Farmer’s Dog is the official pet food of the Cowboys. The post did not name the shelter or rescue group that has Chanel.
National Dog Day falls on Aug. 26 each year. Founder Colleen Paige set the date to mark the day she adopted her first dog as a child, and the campaign’s website asks people to visit shelters and rescues. Paige also founded National Cat Day, which is observed Oct. 29.

The Cowboys and The Farmer’s Dog staged a dog draft at The Star in Frisco on April 25. Adoptable dogs from Cane Rosso Rescue went to families in a format modeled on the NFL Draft. The event started at noon at Tostitos Championship Plaza. Anyone who adopted one of those dogs by May 9 received a free first box of food along with $300 toward a subscription. A Cowboys player and two Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders appeared at the event, which also included a raffle for a signed jersey.
Cheerleader Tori Skillings has taken dogs out of Dallas Animal Services for daylong outings she calls “Doggie Daycations,” in a program The Farmer’s Dog Digest wrote about in March. Skillings told the outlet that a shelter carries stressors for dogs between the noise, the smells, and the constant activity.
The outings came from “wanting to give shelter dogs a break from the environment they’re in every day,” Skillings said.
Cowboys Training Camp Schedule at The Star
Dallas closed the Oxnard, California, portion of camp earlier this month and returned to North Texas for two open practices at Ford Center at The Star in Frisco. Tuesday’s session opened at 5:30 p.m. CT with an opening ceremony that carried a Cheerleaders performance and remarks from owner, president, and general manager Jerry Jones, followed by a tailgate and a drone show on Tostitos Championship Plaza. Both practices were free, ran from 6 to 8 p.m. CT, and opened their doors at 4:30 p.m. CT. Wednesday’s practice is scheduled for a live broadcast on TXA 21 and a stream on DallasCowboys.com.
What Comes Next for the Cowboys
The preseason finale against the New Orleans Saints kicks off Friday at 7 p.m. CT at AT&T Stadium. It is the only preseason game the Cowboys play at home this year, and the Saints are coached by Kellen Moore, a former Cowboys quarterback and offensive coordinator.
Dallas must cut its roster from 91 players to 53 by Sunday at 5 p.m. CT. The regular season opens Sept. 13 at the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium.
