Dallas Cowboys Hold Jonathan Mingo, Shavon Revel Jr. And Other Key Names Out Of Preseason Finale

ARLINGTON, Texas — Shavon Revel Jr., Luke Schoonmaker, Malachi Lawrence, and Jonathan Mingo will not play in Friday night’s preseason finale against the New Orleans Saints, Kristi Scales of the Dallas Cowboys Radio Network reported on the 105.3 The Fan pregame broadcast. Scales said the coaching staff has seen enough from Mingo.

Rosters across the league must be down to 53 players by 5 p.m. CT on Sunday, Aug. 30, and waiver claims are due at noon CT the next day.

Kickoff at AT&T Stadium is set for 7 p.m. CT on CBS. Joe Milton III is starting at quarterback, and Sam Howell is scheduled to take the second half.

Career Firsts In Glendale For Jonathan Mingo And Shavon Revel Jr.

All four players were on the field a week ago in the 34-13 win over the Arizona Cardinals, and two of them left Glendale with the first of something.

Mingo caught a 53-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter, which was the first touchdown of his career. He had gone 38 regular-season games without one since Carolina drafted him in the second round in 2023.

Revel intercepted Gardner Minshew II on third-and-13 and returned the ball 22 yards to the Arizona 12. Dallas scored three plays later. It was the first interception of Revel’s career, and he was on the field for five defensive snaps.

Dallas selected Revel 76th overall in 2025 out of East Carolina. A torn ACL that ended his college career carried into his rookie season, and he did not make his NFL debut until Week 11. He appeared in seven games.

Dallas Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said Wednesday at The Star that Mingo has figured out what creates value on a roster, and he pointed to the work Mingo has done as a gunner and as a returner.

Mingo said the same day that he is finally feeling healthy after a groin injury limited him through the offseason program this spring. He is playing out the final year of his rookie contract.

Malachi Lawrence And The Tight End Room

Lawrence made his NFL debut at Seattle on Aug. 15 and finished with 3 tackles, then drew a lighter workload against Arizona. Schottenheimer said Wednesday that the rookie’s best pass rushes of camp had come over the previous week to 10 days.

Schoonmaker was on the field for eight of the 58 offensive snaps in Glendale, while Zack Kuntz handled 43 of them. The Cowboys played most of that game with one healthy tight end after Princeton Fant tore an ACL earlier in camp.

Michael Trigg returned to practice on Wednesday after missing a week with a toe injury, and the undrafted rookie said he is good to go for Friday.

Dallas carries a 2-0 preseason record into the finale after wins at Seattle and Arizona. New Orleans has lost both of its games.
