FRISCO, Texas — Bleacher Report’s NFL Scouting Department sent Oregon tight end Jamari Johnson to the Dallas Cowboys at No. 17 overall in a 2027 mock draft published Monday.
Draft order came from FanDuel’s reverse Super Bowl odds rather than projected records. Those odds put the Miami Dolphins at No. 1 overall and Dallas at No. 17.
B/R’s scouts described Johnson as a three-down mismatch at the position and projected a breakout season for him in Eugene. Alabama cornerback Zabien Brown, Iowa offensive tackle Trevor Lauck, and Georgia linebacker Chris Cole were listed as the other prospects considered at the pick.
Jamari Johnson’s Production At Oregon
Johnson played his first two college seasons at Louisville and transferred to Oregon before the 2025 campaign. Through the Ducks’ College Football Playoff first-round game last season, he had 24 receptions for 361 yards and two touchdowns. He is listed at 6-foot-5 and 257 pounds and wears No. 9.
His first touchdown in an Oregon uniform came in the first overtime on the road against then-No. 3 Penn State. His second came against James Madison.
Johnson played tight end, wide receiver, running back, quarterback, and defensive end at Inglewood High School in Inglewood, California. He was named the Ocean League Player of the Year and selected to the 2023 All-American Bowl, and he was recruited by Alabama, Michigan, Michigan State, Miami, Florida State, Arizona, and Washington before signing with Louisville.
How The Dallas Cowboys’ 2027 First-Round Picks Break Down
Dallas owns two first-round selections in 2027. One is its own. The other came from Green Bay in the August 2025 trade that sent Micah Parsons to the Packers along with defensive tackle Kenny Clark and a 2026 first-rounder coming back to Dallas.
In November 2025, the Cowboys traded a 2027 first-round pick, a 2026 second-round pick, and defensive tackle Mazi Smith to the New York Jets for defensive tackle Quinnen Williams. Under the terms of that trade, the Jets receive the higher of the two 2027 first-round picks Dallas owns.
Bleacher Report placed the Cowboys at No. 17 with the Green Bay selection and the Jets at No. 20 with the Dallas selection.
Jake Ferguson enters 2026 as the starting tight end in Dallas. He caught 82 passes for 600 yards and eight touchdowns across all 17 regular-season games in 2025, and he averaged 7.3 yards per reception. Ferguson was a fourth-round pick out of Wisconsin in 2022, went to the Pro Bowl in 2023 and 2025, and signed a four-year, $50 million extension last offseason. He restructured that deal on Sept. 3 as part of three contract restructures that created more than $19 million in cap space.
Dallas used its two 2026 first-round picks on safety Caleb Downs and outside linebacker Malachi Lawrence, who went No. 23 overall. Williams signed a three-year, $105.9 million extension this offseason that runs through 2030. The Cowboys finished 7-9-1 in 2025.
