Dallas Cowboys Injury Update: CeeDee Lamb Quad, Tyler Guyton Back, Joey Porter Jr. Illness After Loss To Tampa Bay Buccaneers

ARLINGTON, Texas — Dallas Cowboys receiver CeeDee Lamb and left tackle Tyler Guyton both left Thursday night’s 24-16 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with injuries and returned, and cornerback Joey Porter Jr. was inactive after falling ill at AT&T Stadium. Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer gave initial updates after the game.

CeeDee Lamb, Tyler Guyton Return After Injury Scares

Lamb was hit on the same quad he took a hit to the week before, and it became painful, Schottenheimer said. Lamb exited with 8:32 remaining in the fourth quarter, was listed as questionable to return, and was back on the field on the same drive. He finished with 2 catches for 9 yards on 5 targets and played 34 of the Cowboys’ 60 offensive snaps.

Four days earlier, Lamb set a career high with 17 catches for 189 yards and caught the go-ahead 12-yard touchdown with 40 seconds left in a 34-30 win over the Houston Texans.

Guyton’s X-rays looked good, Schottenheimer said, but the Cowboys will run more tests on his back. Guyton played 52 offensive snaps, 87% of the total. Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said he did not know the seriousness of Guyton’s back strain, but that Guyton came back in at the end.

Joey Porter Jr. Becomes ‘Very, Very Sick’ Before Kickoff

Porter was a late scratch, and Schottenheimer said the decision came after the trainers went to the coaches before the game.

“Unique thing. Came to the stadium and he wasn’t feeling very well. And trainers came to us, said it got significantly worse after we treated him,” Schottenheimer said. “He just wasn’t feeling good. And the decision was made that he wasn’t going to be able to play, as he was very, very sick.”

Jones said Porter had flu symptoms and could not keep his food down. Dallas acquired Porter in a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers last week, and Thursday was supposed to be his second game with the Cowboys, The Associated Press reported.

DaRon Bland, Shavon Revel Among Cowboys Secondary Updates

Cornerback DaRon Bland played all 72 defensive snaps with Porter out.

“It affects us too much. A little bit, just missing a guy. You always wanna have everybody there, so. And to have a lot of guys hurt right now. So it hurts a little bit,” Bland said. “But we still had to go out there and perform.”

Receiver Jonathan Mingo was on the injury report entering the game, and Schottenheimer said a lot of people have had little things. Mingo played and caught 2 passes for 20 yards.

Safety Alijah Clark left in the second quarter with a hamstring injury and was ruled out in the third quarter. Cornerback Shavon Revel was hurt on a third-quarter play and returned early in the fourth quarter.

Revel said after the game that he took a shot before kickoff and feels great.

Dak Prescott Says Throwing Hand Is Fine As Tyler Smith Returns

Dak Prescott went 24-of-42 for 316 yards with two interceptions, and reporters noted that his throwing hand had been bandaged after the Houston game.

“Those are definitely more decisions, more credit to Todd Bowles and that defense and that blitz, to be honest with you. Absolutely nothing wrong with my hand,” Prescott said. “The accuracy of what I felt, I’ve got to go back and look at it, but I think I felt fine. Those are more decisions than the precision of the throw.”

Guard Tyler Smith returned to the lineup and played all 60 offensive snaps.

Smith had missed the first four games on injured reserve after surgery to repair a torn ligament in his left thumb.

“I mean, physically, I feel fine. The loss definitely hurts for sure. Just to come back and not be able to get that victory, that sucks,” Smith said. “But I think physically I’m okay for sure.”

The Cowboys have 10 days before they visit the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, Oct. 18 at Lambeau Field. Kickoff is set for 7:20 p.m. CT on NBC.
