ARLINGTON, Texas — Camden Brown started at receiver for the Dallas Cowboys in Friday night’s preseason finale, an undrafted rookie lining up with CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens, KaVontae Turpin, Ryan Flournoy, and Jonathan Mingo all held out.
Brown caught 1 pass for 27 yards in the 27-24 loss to the New Orleans Saints, a deep ball on third-and-10 in the first quarter. Rosters cut to 53 players at 5 p.m. CT Sunday.
“It means everything, because being a little kid growing up where I’m from, Monroe, Louisiana, a lot of people don’t get to make it,” Brown said. “The last person that really made it for real was KaVontae Turpin, and that’s my guy. I was really a young kid, watched all his state championships when he played at the New Orleans Superdome. So seeing him go to work every day, that was a blessing itself. Doing something for my city, doing something for my high school and things of that nature with the last name on my back, it’s a blessing itself. So I’m just thankful if I get the call, but whatever happens, happens.”
Camden Brown Grew Up in Monroe, Louisiana
Brown is from Monroe, the same town Turpin comes out of. Turpin played at Neville High School there. He went undrafted in 2019, spent three seasons in minor and spring leagues, and reached Dallas in 2022 after winning USFL MVP with the New Jersey Generals. He has made three Pro Bowls as a return specialist and was a first-team All-Pro in 2024.
Brown spent three seasons at Auburn and caught 26 passes for 289 yards. He transferred to Georgia Southern for his senior year and finished second in the Sun Belt Conference with 1,079 receiving yards. Dallas signed him after the 2026 draft.
He caught all 3 passes thrown to him for 62 yards and both Cowboys touchdowns in the preseason opener at Seattle on Aug. 15. One came from Sam Howell for 39 yards, the other from Joe Milton III. Through the first two games he had 5 catches for 139 yards.
“The best thing about it is I’m healthy. That’s the best piece about it,” Brown said. “Every moment I took from the preseason was a blessing in itself and just having fun with it. Being with guys like George Pickens, being with guys like CeeDee, Flo, Mingo, all those guys, they made it easy for me. Those veterans made it very, very easy for me. And I’m thankful for them.”
The Wide Receiver Room
Dallas dressed 7 receivers Friday and held out 5. Jordan Hudson, another undrafted rookie, led the team with 4 catches for 97 yards and a touchdown, and he made a tackle on the kickoff after his own score. Marquez Valdes-Scantling caught 2 passes for 31 yards. Four other receivers were targeted.
“Competing every day, that’s the standard in what we do. I’m thankful he did what he did,” Brown said of Hudson. “The way competition goes, it’s still love at the end of the day. It’s brotherly love. That’s the core values. So when you compete every day and keep the main thing the main thing, you’re still brothers at the end of the day. So I’m happy for Hudy. That’s my guy right there.”
Brown is a common projection to make the 53-man roster among media members.
Dallas opens at the New York Giants on Sept. 13. Kickoff is 7:20 p.m. CT on NBC.
