SEATTLE — Cal Quantrill will start Tuesday night against the Seattle Mariners, and Cody Bradford is expected to pitch Wednesday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reported. The Texas Rangers had not announced a starter for either game as of Tuesday morning.
First pitch at T-Mobile Park is 8:40 p.m. CT on Rangers Sports Network. Wednesday’s game begins at 3:10 p.m. CT, and so does Thursday’s series finale.
Texas opened the road trip at 71-73 with 18 games left, two games behind the Houston Astros in the American League West. The Rangers are 31-41 away from Globe Life Field this season and 6-17 against AL West opponents on the road.
Cal Quantrill Has A 1.25 ERA Since July 28
Quantrill has a 1.25 ERA over eight outings, including seven starts, since July 28 at Tampa Bay. He is 7-5 with a 2.79 ERA in 29 appearances overall, 12 of them starts, and has worked 96 2/3 innings with 79 hits and 30 earned runs allowed, 24 walks and 73 strikeouts.
Against the Tampa Bay Rays on Sept. 3, Quantrill went seven innings and allowed 2 hits and no runs with 2 walks and 5 strikeouts on 95 pitches. Texas won 6-0. It was the third time in four outings that he had thrown at least six shutout innings.
Rangers manager Skip Schumaker said the start gave Texas “length and a win,” and that it relieved the bullpen.
Quantrill signed a minor league contract with Texas last offseason and did not make the Opening Day roster. The Rangers selected his contract from Triple-A Round Rock in April, and he pitched out of the bullpen until late June.
Cody Bradford Has Six Starts Since Elbow Surgery
Bradford is 0-4 with a 4.45 ERA in six starts since Texas reinstated him from the 60-day injured list on Aug. 5. He has thrown 30 1/3 innings and allowed 41 hits and 15 earned runs with 7 walks and 16 strikeouts. Opponents are batting .331 against him.
Bradford had an internal brace procedure on his left elbow in June 2025 and missed the entire season. He made four rehab starts with Triple-A Round Rock and Double-A Frisco before the Rangers activated him, allowing 1 run over 10 innings with 16 strikeouts and 2 walks.
His second start back came on Aug. 16 against the Athletics in West Sacramento, and he lasted four innings and gave up 2 runs on 8 hits.
“Not having great fastball command makes any game a grind,” Bradford said. “I made too many mistakes over the middle of the plate when I really needed to locate something on the outer half or the inner half, and I wasn’t able to make that happen today.”
Seventeen days later, Bradford gave up 3 home runs in four innings against the same club at Globe Life Field, matching the career high he set at the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sept. 11, 2024. The 5 runs he allowed were a season high, and the Athletics won 9-2.
“I think fastball command and changeup command were kind of hit and miss today at times,” Bradford explained. “I think the inconsistency, falling behind in counts, putting them in hitters’ counts … they made some good damage swings.”
Nathan Eovaldi went back on the 15-day injured list this month with right posterior elbow inflammation. Jack Leiter remains on the 60-day injured list with a right ankle posterior impingement.
Texas has won the season series against Seattle 7-3, and six of those wins came at Globe Life Field. The Rangers open a three-game series at the Diamondbacks on Friday.
