FRISCO, Texas — Broderick Jones is listed second at right tackle on the Dallas Cowboys unofficial depth chart released Tuesday, 10 days after Dallas traded two 2027 picks to get him.
The Pittsburgh Steelers sent Jones and a 2027 fourth-round pick to Dallas on Aug. 29 for 2027 third- and sixth-round selections. Terence Steele is listed ahead of him. The Cowboys open Sunday night at the New York Giants.
Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said Monday that Dallas has gotten more athletic up front since adding Jones and Wanya Morris, and that rookie Drew Shelton is going to be a good player.
“I think it’s one of those things that’s going to be ongoing. I think Terence Steele is the starting right tackle right now,” Schottenheimer said. “Broderick’s here learning, doing an awesome job learning. And I think one thing we’ve done is we’ve gotten a lot more athletic overall as an offensive line unit. When you look at Broderick coming on board, Wanya coming on board, I think that’s a good thing for us. We’ve got some depth now at tackles. Drew Shelton, I think, is going to be a really good football player.”
“We’ll see how the week goes and we’ll see how the numbers play as we carry the eight offensive linemen,” Schottenheimer continued.
Jones went 14th overall in the 2023 draft. He has 38 starts in 45 games. Pittsburgh played him at both tackle spots, declined his fifth-year option in May, and drafted tackle Max Iheanachor 21st overall this year. His base salary is roughly $1.5 million.
Broderick Jones On Bouncing Between Tackle Spots In Pittsburgh
Not being able to set his feet at one position was the challenge for Jones in Pittsburgh.
“For me, I would just say bouncing around positions, just not being able to get my feet set,” Jones said. “That was a challenge for me.”
Dallas is not moving him. Schottenheimer said when the trade was completed that Jones would work only at right tackle.
Jones injured his knee in Week 12 last season against the Chicago Bears, went on injured reserve in late November, and was activated Feb. 15. Pittsburgh played him on both sides of the line during the preseason to establish his health, and Dallas reviewed film of him pulling and finishing blocks before completing the physical work on the trade.

Steele arrived undrafted out of Texas Tech in 2020. He has started 91 of his 96 career games and has started all 17 games in each of the past three seasons. Last season he played 1,162 offensive snaps, 98% of the team’s total, and was flagged 3 times. Pro Football Focus graded him 54.9 in pass blocking, 76th among 89 qualified tackles.
The rest of the line is unchanged from a year ago on the chart. Tyler Guyton is at left tackle with Shelton behind him. Cooper Beebe is at center and Tyler Booker at right guard, with Ajani Cornelius backing up Booker. Tyler Smith is listed at left guard a day after Schottenheimer said Smith would have thumb surgery Tuesday and go on injured reserve.
