AUSTIN, Texas — Texas has strengthened its standing with Brysen Wright, the No. 1 overall prospect in the 2028 class, after the five-star wide receiver returned to campus for Saturday night’s game against the Ohio State Buckeyes, Chad Simmons of Rivals reported Monday.
Wright first visited Austin in the spring. He came back over the weekend for his first Texas Longhorns game day, and Simmons reported the trip only helped the program’s position.

“My favorite part about the trip was the game and stadium. It was crazy,” Wright said.
Wright is a 6-foot-3.5, 215-pound receiver at Mandarin High School in Jacksonville, Florida. Florida offered him in April 2024, when he was an eighth grader. He holds 32 offers, according to 247Sports.
As a freshman, Wright caught 31 passes for 646 yards and 8 touchdowns in 11 games. He followed that with 46 receptions, 983 yards, and 10 touchdowns in 12 games as a sophomore. Over his first two varsity seasons he has 77 catches for 1,629 yards and 18 touchdowns.
In December 2024, Wright was named MVP of the FBU Freshman All-American Bowl after catching 3 passes for 66 yards and the game-winning touchdown. He signed a name, image and likeness deal with trading card company Wild Card in July 2025, becoming its first high school signee.
Rivals analyst Steve Wiltfong said in July that Texas and Miami were making the strongest early pushes in the recruitment. Texas hosted more than 30 prospects for the Ohio State game. Before the weekend, Wiltfong said “every elite player known to man” would be on the Forty Acres.
Sam Spiegelman of Rivals reported Monday that Texas took a step forward with four-star receiver Damarion Mays and that the Longhorns have pulled away for four-star running back Micah Rhodes, both of whom also visited.
Texas Rallies Past Ohio State In Front Of 105,044
Texas trailed 23-3 before scoring 21 unanswered points to beat Ohio State 24-23 at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. Arch Manning opened the run with a 3-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Wingo in the first minute of the fourth quarter. Hollywood Smothers scored on a 1-yard run with 7:14 to play, then scored again from a yard out with 25 seconds left.
Manning finished 23-of-37 for 196 yards and 1 touchdown. In the fourth quarter he went 8-of-11 for 83 yards and a score. Smothers finished with 74 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns.
It was Texas’ first home win over an AP No. 1 team since a victory over then top-ranked SMU on Nov. 4, 1950. Texas is 2-0. Ohio State fell to 1-1.
