Dallas Cowboys Add Luke Schoonmaker, Tyler Smith To Thursday Injury Report As KaVontae Turpin, Dee Winters Sit Again Before Cardinals Game

FRISCO, Texas — Luke Schoonmaker did not practice Thursday for the Dallas Cowboys, who added the tight end to their injury report with a groin injury three days before the Arizona Cardinals visit AT&T Stadium.
Guard Tyler Smith landed on the report Thursday as well, listed with an ankle injury, but he practiced in full. For a second straight day, wide receiver KaVontae Turpin (ribs) and linebacker Dee Winters (calf) did not take part.
Dallas went through only a walkthrough Wednesday, two days after its Monday night win in Philadelphia, so the participation listed that day was an estimate. Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer met with reporters at The Star on Tuesday, a day before the walkthrough.
“We got a few guys bumped and bruised,” Schottenheimer said. “Again, we won’t get a great read on them till probably Thursday ’cause tomorrow will be all walk. But nothing major.”
Four players were limited on both days. Rookie safety Caleb Downs (ankle) and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams (hamstring) were new to the report this week. Wide receiver George Pickens is listed with shoulder and hamstring injuries, and rookie tackle Drew Shelton is still working back from a hamstring injury that kept him out of the last two games.
Defensive tackle Jonathan Bullard practiced in full Thursday. Dallas opened his 21-day practice window the same afternoon. Outside linebacker Marist Liufau and safety P.J. Locke have been practicing since their own windows opened Oct. 22 and Oct. 23. Liufau is listed with a forearm injury and Locke with a foot injury, and both were full participants again.
KaVontae Turpin, Dee Winters Sit Again
Turpin got hurt on the first play of the Oct. 18 game at Lambeau Field, a 23-13 loss to the Green Bay Packers. He returned the opening kickoff 25 yards and did not come back. Winters lasted until 13:36 remained in the second quarter. Late in the first, he had picked off a pass for the Dallas defense’s first interception of the season.
Schottenheimer first described Turpin’s injury as rib cartilage after the game. At The Star the next day, he said Turpin’s X-rays had come back clean.
“Winters, Achilles strain, likely [to miss] this week. Turp, like I said last night, rib cartilage, will be week to week, unlikely for Philadelphia,” Schottenheimer explained. “Everybody else, I think, is looking clean, and then we’ll see how D-Mo works back into practice this week. But we’re hoping he returns this week.”
Neither player practiced the week of the Eagles game. Schottenheimer opened his Oct. 22 news conference with the list.
“Dee Winters and Turp will not practice. D-Mo worked back in today. Excited to see how he does. Cobie Durant should get some work in practice,” Schottenheimer said.
Turpin, Winters, and Shelton were all inactive Monday when the Cowboys ran for 204 yards in a 38-21 win over the Philadelphia Eagles. Tyler Goodson took the kickoffs in Turpin’s place. His 99-yard return for a touchdown came back on a holding penalty.
Dallas has listed Winters with a calf injury on its practice reports since the Packers game. Before that night, he had 35 tackles and a fumble recovery after coming over from the San Francisco 49ers in a draft-weekend trade. Turpin has made three Pro Bowls as a returner.
DeMarvion Overshown played in Winters’ spot Monday, his first game since Week 1 after a hamstring injury cost him five games. He intercepted a pass in the second half at Lincoln Financial Field.
“It was great playing, number-one. A lot like Dee Winters last week. The catch was awesome. Put us into a four-minute situation, and it was awesome to see him back out there along with Cobie Durant,” Schottenheimer said after the game.
Jonathan Bullard Practices In Full As Luke Schoonmaker, Tyler Smith Join Report
Bullard went on injured reserve Sept. 30, three days after he hurt his calf in a 34-31 loss to the Baltimore Ravens in Rio de Janeiro. Over the first three games, he had 3 tackles and a half-sack. Before Dallas, the 11th-year defensive tackle spent 2019 and part of 2020 in Arizona, appearing in nine games with six starts.
Thumb surgery before the opener cost Smith the first four games. Dallas opened the All-Pro left guard’s return window Oct. 5, three days before a Thursday night home game.
In Philadelphia, Schoonmaker was on the field for 11 of the Cowboys’ 68 offensive snaps. He was not targeted. The Cowboys took him in the second round in 2023, 58th overall, and he did not miss a regular-season game over his first three seasons, playing in all 51.
Downs went No. 11 overall in April after Dallas traded up one spot to take him out of Ohio State. Williams came over from the New York Jets at last season’s trade deadline. Pickens had 4 catches for 57 yards and a touchdown on 6 targets Monday, scoring from 21 yards out before halftime.
Game designations come with Friday’s report. Arizona is 2-5 after a 30-16 loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday, and Dallas is 3-4. The Cardinals won the last meeting, 27-17, at AT&T Stadium on Nov. 3, 2025. Kickoff Sunday is set for noon CT on FOX.
