DALLAS — It has been quite some time since Dallas Mavericks fans last saw veteran guard Kyrie Irving in action, as he suffered a torn ACL late in the 2024-25 season and has been sidelined ever since.
In that time, Irving has been a popular name in trade rumors, but he remains a Maverick as the 2026-27 season approaches, and it doesn’t sound like that’s going to change.
Dallas Mavericks Front Office Shuts Down Kyrie Irving Trade Talk
A Dallas front office executive told Keith Smith of Spotrac that Irving isn’t going anywhere.
“He keeps getting put in all kinds of rumors, but we’re not looking to move Kyrie and Kyrie isn’t looking to be moved either,” the executive said. “We didn’t get to see him with Cooper [Flagg] last year, but we’re very excited to see that pairing this year.”
While circumstances can always change, it certainly sounds like the Mavs have a vision, and Irving is part of it.
Kyrie Irving and Cooper Flagg Set for Their First Season Together
He missed Cooper Flagg‘s entire rookie campaign while recovering from his ACL injury. In his absence, the 19-year-old put together a phenomenal debut season, averaging 21.0 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game en route to Rookie of the Year honors.
Now, Irving, a nine-time All-Star, is in line to be able to help Flagg in his sophomore season. The word on Irving is that he’s healthy after a successful journey back from his torn ACL. That should put the two Duke products on the floor together when the Mavs open their season in the fall.
Where Kyrie Irving’s Contract Stands
In his last season before his injury, Irving averaged 24.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game while shooting 47.3% from the field and 40.1% from beyond the arc. He was named an All-Star in what was an otherwise quite disappointing season for Dallas.
As it stands now, Irving is under contract for the upcoming season and then has a player option for the 2027-28 campaign. His future may become a relevant topic of conversation again down the line, but at the moment, it appears that he and the Mavs are committed to one another with regard to the 2026-27 season.
