AUSTIN, Texas — Cam Coleman said Monday that the Texas Longhorns are coming for the Ohio State Buckeyes’ defense on Saturday.
“We’re coming,” Coleman said. “We’re coming.”
Coleman made the comment at Texas’ game-week player media availability. Tyler Horka of Inside Texas reported it that afternoon.
The Associated Press released its Week 2 poll on Tuesday with Ohio State at No. 1 and Texas at No. 4. Ohio State drew 46 first-place votes. Texas sits No. 3 in the coaches poll.
Cam Coleman’s Texas Debut Against Texas State
Coleman caught Arch Manning‘s first pass attempt of the season and scored from 6 yards out. In the third quarter he took a throw over the middle and went 20 yards for his second score. Coleman finished with 3 receptions for 70 yards and 2 touchdowns in a 59-7 win over Texas State on Saturday.
Manning completed 20-of-27 passes for 305 yards, 4 touchdowns, and 1 interception before coming out in the third quarter. He threw for 26 touchdowns last season, when Texas finished 10-3 and missed the College Football Playoff.
Ryan Wingo led Texas with 7 receptions for 121 yards and 1 touchdown on 8 targets against the Bobcats. Coleman was second on the team in targets and receiving yards.
“It was very fun watching him ball,” Coleman said of Wingo. “Him and Emmett [Mosley] ball, and really all of the other receivers, too.”
Emmett Mosley V and running back Hollywood Smothers each had 3 receptions. Wide receivers Sterling Berkhalter and Jermaine Bishop and tight end Emaree Winston caught 2 apiece. Wingo was a second-team All-SEC pick in 2025 after finishing with 54 receptions for 834 yards and 7 touchdowns.
Coleman transferred to Texas from Auburn in spring 2026 after two seasons with the Tigers, and he was the consensus top wide receiver available in the portal. As a true freshman in 2024 he made 37 receptions for 598 yards and 8 touchdowns and earned a spot on the SEC All-Freshman Team. He started all 12 games in 2025 and led Auburn with 708 receiving yards, adding 56 receptions and 5 touchdowns. His two years at Auburn produced 93 receptions, 1,306 yards, and 13 touchdowns.
Ohio State Has Won The Last Two Meetings With Texas
Ohio State won 14-7 in Columbus on Aug. 30, 2025, in the season opener for both teams. Texas entered that week ranked No. 1 in the preseason AP poll and fell to No. 7 after the loss.
The teams met in Arlington the season before that. Ohio State took the College Football Playoff semifinal 28-14 at AT&T Stadium on Jan. 10, 2025, and beat Notre Dame for the national championship 10 days later in Atlanta. Saturday is the third meeting in three seasons.
Ohio State opened this season with a 56-3 win over Ball State. Wide receiver Jeremiah Smith did not play in the second half, and Ohio State coach Ryan Day said afterward that Smith told him to go beat Texas the following week.
Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. CT on ABC at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. Texas opened as a 1.5-point favorite at FanDuel Sportsbook.
