FRISCO, Texas — Tyler Guyton has played well since the Dallas Cowboys put on pads in training camp, coach Brian Schottenheimer said Wednesday at The Star. Guyton played all 58 offensive snaps at tackle in the 28-20 loss to the New York Giants, and Dallas did not allow a sack.
Guyton’s play carried through the joint practices and into Sunday night, Schottenheimer said.
“I think Tyler has played the way Tyler’s played from the time we got to training camp and put the pads on. I think that’s been really good. That goes through the joint practices and the other night,” Schottenheimer said. “It’s a really good front, and we’re going to be challenged again this week with Oweh and Chaisson and those guys. It’s a good front. Daron Payne inside. But Tyler’s playing really, really well.”
“I thought that, again, on offense, some of the adjustments that we made at halftime were really, really good. I thought we did some really good things from a kickoff coverage [standpoint]. I thought that was positive,” Schottenheimer continued. “But all in all, we’re excited to get back to work today. And we’re excited to get another division opponent. And it should be a great way of opening the season at home.”
Dallas took Guyton with the No. 29 overall pick in 2024. Dak Prescott completed 22-of-34 passes for 175 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 interception against New York. The Cowboys ran 18 times for 69 yards.
T.J. Bass Started At Left Guard For Tyler Smith
T.J. Bass played all 58 snaps at left guard in place of Tyler Smith, who had thumb surgery and went on injured reserve. Smith is expected to miss four to six weeks. Bass played in 48 games with 10 starts across his first three seasons in Dallas.
Bass never gets too high or too low, Schottenheimer said.
“It’s another great challenge for us. Like I said, you got Kinlaw and Payne inside and the linebackers are very nosy, Luvu and Sonny Styles, but no, I thought T.J. played well,” Schottenheimer explained. “We’re not surprised by that. He’s very, his demeanor is just very calm. He’s not a guy that you ever see get too high, never gets too low. He just competes and plays well. And I was proud of him.”
Tyler Booker, Cooper Beebe, and Terence Steele also played all 58 offensive snaps. Rookie Drew Shelton played 3.
Washington Commanders Front Sacked Jalen Hurts Three Times
The Washington Commanders sacked Jalen Hurts three times in a 24-22 loss at the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. Odafe Oweh had a sack and 2 tackles for loss in his Washington debut. Sonny Styles and Frankie Luvu had the other two sacks.
Defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw made 2 tackles, 1 for a loss. Daron Payne made 1 tackle.
